SYNOPSIS

The Journey to Killing You (Japanese: あなたを殺す旅, Hepburn: Anata wo Korosu Tabi) is a 2025 Japanese boys' love (BL) crime-romance television series adapted from the manga of the same name by Asai Sai (浅井西). Directed by Daisuke Kamijo and produced by anrico and Culture Entertainment for Fuji Television, the six-episode yakuza drama aired on Fuji TV (and FOD) from September 26 to October 24, 2025, with episodes running roughly 26-28 minutes.

The series stars Masanari Wada as Kataoka Kinji, a charismatic and compassionate young yakuza boss beloved by his men, and Hiroto Takahashi as Odajima Ren, the stoic subordinate assigned to attend to him. The cast also includes Shintaro Yuya as Keito Kirii, Kaito Hori as Kaiho Asahi, Keisuke Teranaka as Genichiro Kumakura, and Toi Nakabayashi as Eiji Ichinose.

After a violent incident, Kataoka is ordered into hiding by the family head's son, Kirii, and Odajima is assigned as his driver and handler. Unknown to Kataoka, Odajima carries a secret order to kill him, and has nursed a seven-year grudge against him. Forced into constant proximity, the two men's tense, transactional arrangement slowly gives way to genuine feeling, in a dark, emotionally charged story of loyalty, betrayal, trauma and forbidden love within the criminal underworld.

EDITOR’S VERDICT

8/10

The Journey to Killing You is one of 2025's standout Japanese BLs precisely because it refuses to be soft. Adapted from Asai Sai's manga, it drops its romance into a yakuza succession war where the man assigned to protect the young boss has secretly been ordered to kill him.

The Leads

Masanari Wada's Kataoka is the rare yakuza boss written as genuinely tender — he even calls his handler his "wife" — while Hiroto Takahashi plays Odajima as a cold, trauma-scarred man whose seven-year grudge slowly cracks under forced intimacy. The push-pull between duty, revenge and feeling is the show's engine.

What to Expect

  • Dark and gritty: crime, betrayal and PTSD over fluff; this leans mature, with sexual content.
  • Compact: six episodes of roughly 26–28 minutes make for a tight, bingeable run.
  • Manga-faithful: fans of Asai Sai's original will recognise the brooding tone.

The Verdict

If you want a yakuza BL with real stakes and a hate-to-love arc that earns its ending, The Journey to Killing You is among the best Japanese entries of the year.

Editorial draft score: 8.0/10
