About this archive

Assembling a production is this credit’s territory: raising or allocating the budget, hiring the director and crew, agreeing the shooting schedule, securing rights to source material, and keeping the work on time and on cost. It is the role that turns a script into something that can actually be shot, and it continues through delivery to a broadcaster or platform.

In BL and GL the job frequently reaches further than that. Several of the studios making this work also manage the performers who appear in it, so the same company may be developing the series, casting from its own roster, arranging the music release and running the fan events and concerts afterwards. A producer inside that structure is shaping a career and a body of work at once, deciding which pairings to build and which projects to place them in. On smaller independent productions the producer is often also the director or writer, and the separation between those credits becomes largely formal.

Following this credit is one of the better ways to understand why a body of work looks the way it does, since producers tend to stay with a company far longer than any individual cast does.
