Chu Chia-wei, the Taiwanese actress who plays Zhi Ling in the BL series Connecting to You

Chu Chia-wei

BIOGRAPHY

Chu Chia-wei (Chinese: 朱家緯), who also works under the name Judy Chu, is a Taiwanese actor. Her professional casting portfolio describes her, in her own words, as a lively and outgoing person who has been working in the industry for fifteen years, which would place her start well before any credit recorded in the international databases.

Her most substantial early role is Bai Yi-xin (白藝心) in Lion Pride (獅子王強大), a Taiwanese drama that ran on TTV from 2 December 2017 to 24 February 2018, produced by 6F Production with Eastern Television, whose EBC channel also carried it. The series pairs two teachers with opposite philosophies, a mathematician who reasons everything out and a history teacher who does not, and pushes them together through a crime investigation. TMDB tags it bromance, which is why it falls inside our scope at all. Her casting portfolio lists the part as a secondary role and credits it under the nickname 小心.

From there the record becomes a run of single-episode and guest appearances across some of the best-known Taiwanese productions of the period: the emcee at a school anniversary in Detention (返校, PTS and Netflix, 2020), the character 小淨 in The Victims’ Game (誰是被害者, 2020), a dental assistant in the 2021 series adaptation of More Than Blue (比悲傷更悲傷的故事), a girlfriend in the 2021 film 我沒有談的那場戀愛, a colleague of Jia-Yi in Netflix’s Copycat Killer (模仿犯, 2023), 小愛 in the ensemble comedy drama The Nipple Talk (妮波自由式), a hospital courier in the 2025 film Lovesick (有病才會喜歡你), and the supporting part 張筑聿 in 血.拾人生 (2024). Two lead roles in smaller productions sit in the same stretch: 小安 in 夏之芽 (2018) and 小晴 in 相邀 (2019).

In 2026 she returned to a regular role. She plays Zhi Ling across all thirteen episodes of Connecting to You (整個世界,只有你連上了我), the Taiwanese boys’ love series produced by GrX Studio with Force Films, directed by Yu Jhi-han from a screenplay Yu co-wrote with Wen Huei-ming, adapted from a web novel by Beck. The official series site gives thirteen episodes of roughly thirty minutes each, and distribution runs through Viki, GagaOOLala, MyVideo, friDay Video and iQIYI International. The premise gives its lead the ability to see emotional bonds as coloured threads, and the first thread he ever manages to connect runs to a police officer.

Alongside the screen work her portfolio lists a substantial commercial career, including lead roles in campaigns credited to the directors 羅景壬 and 黃信堯 for clients including 全國電子, 新北住都中心 and 原味本舖, plus supporting work in a McDonald’s campaign and the 小時光麵館 series.

BLGLFlix editorial view

This page used to say she had one credit. The version we published on 28 August 2026 named only Connecting to You and left it there, because we built it from a single TMDB lookup while attaching that series’ cast. Going back properly turned up thirteen further credits across nine years, including a recurring role in a 2017 TTV drama and guest parts in Detention, The Victims’ Game and Copycat Killer. We would rather show you the repair than quietly swap the text.

The shape of the career is the interesting thing here, and it is a shape a database will actively hide from you. A recurring role in a broadcast drama in 2017. Then five years of one-episode parts: an emcee, a colleague, a dental assistant, a girlfriend, a courier. Then, in 2026, a named role across all thirteen episodes of a series. If you only read TMDB you see six scattered credits and might call it a slow career. If you read the casting portfolio next to it you see something else: continuous professional work, much of it in commercials, much of it in productions the international databases do not index, held together across fifteen years. The gap between those two readings is the single most useful thing we can tell you about this profile.

There is also a studio thread worth naming. Copycat Killer (2023) and Connecting to You (2026) are both GrX Studio productions. A one-episode appearance in a studio’s flagship Netflix crime drama, then a full supporting role in that same studio’s boys’ love series three years later, is a normal and slightly under-discussed way that Taiwanese actors move up: not through a breakout, but through a production house that keeps calling.

Two source conflicts we are not going to paper over. First, episode counts for Lion Pride: TMDB records 25, the English Wikipedia article records 16 across the TTV run. Taiwanese dramas are routinely recut when a second broadcaster picks them up, so both figures may describe real airings. We give you both rather than pick the one that looks tidier. Second, dating: her casting portfolio lists Lion Pride under 2016 and 妮波自由式 under 2021, while the broadcast records put them at December 2017 and November 2024. A portfolio dated by shoot rather than by release would explain it, but we have no source that says so, so we state it as an unexplained discrepancy.

One more thing we checked and will not claim. Her portfolio credits commercials to directors named 羅景壬 and 黃信堯. There is a well-known Taiwanese feature director who shares the second name. We found nothing establishing that these are the same person, so we have listed the credits as they appear and drawn no conclusion. Naming a famous director would make this page look more impressive and we are not doing it on a name match alone.

TRIVIA

Her Lion Pride character 白藝心 is credited on screen under the nickname 小心, a play on the word for careful.

Two of her credits are GrX Studio productions three years apart: a single episode of Copycat Killer in 2023 and a full supporting role in Connecting to You in 2026.

Two more are Sequoia Entertainment productions in consecutive years: 妮波自由式 and the 2025 film Lovesick.

Her international database record holds six credits. Her own professional casting portfolio holds thirteen, plus commercial work, and the two lists only partly overlap.

She has appeared in three Netflix Taiwan titles: Detention, The Victims’ Game and Copycat Killer, each for a single episode.

Connecting to You is adapted from a web novel by the author credited as Beck, and its director Yu Jhi-han also co-wrote the screenplay.

The theme song for Connecting to You is performed by the band 理想混蛋.

Her portfolio lists two lead roles in small productions, 夏之芽 in 2018 and 相邀 in 2019, neither of which appears in the international databases at all.
