What happens

Pluto (นิทาน ดวงดาว ความรัก, A Tale, a Star, a Love) is the Thai Girls' Love novel by Chao Planoy that GMMTV's 2024 series adapts. An official English edition runs to 607 pages.

Two sisters, twins, have spent their lives with one of them a step behind the other. Oaboom is the capable one, the one the family is proud of, days away from a marriage everybody approves of. Ai-oon is the quieter one. On the night of the wedding a car accident leaves Oaboom in a coma, and the family asks Ai-oon to do something no one should be asked: put on her sister's face for long enough to close a relationship Oaboom had kept hidden from all of them.

The person on the other side of that secret is May, who is blind, and who therefore has no way of knowing that the woman in front of her is not the woman she fell for. The novel is about how long a lie can be carried before the person carrying it starts wanting it to be true, and what is owed to someone who cannot see the deception being run on them.

The title is the argument: Pluto lost its status as a planet and kept orbiting anyway. Chao Planoy also wrote the novel behind GAP.

Before You Read

  • What it is: the Thai GL novel by Chao Planoy that GMMTV’s 2024 series Pluto the Series adapts.
  • Thai title: นิทาน ดวงดาว ความรัก, roughly A Tale, a Star, a Love. The English title is just Pluto.
  • Official English edition: 607 pages, released as an e-book on 6 September 2023 through MEB. A Thai e-book edition is also available.
  • Same author as GAP. Chao Planoy wrote both, and both are self-published rather than issued through a house imprint.
  • The premise is a swap, not a romance trope. One twin takes the other’s place to end a relationship the family wants closed, and the woman on the other side is blind.
  • On screen: Tipnaree Weerawatnodom plays both sisters in GMMTV’s adaptation.

A lie that starts to feel like a wish.

The setup collapses if the book is not honest about it, and the reason to read the novel is that it is. Ai-oon is not a victim of circumstance; she agrees, and the book keeps the reader inside how quickly agreeing turns into wanting.

May is the harder character to write. She is not simply being deceived; she is reading a situation with the information she has, and the gap between what she senses and what she is told is where most of the tension lives.

Because May cannot see, the impersonation cannot rest on a borrowed face. It has to live in voice, habit and what is said across a table, which is where a novel has more room than a camera and why the book can follow Ai-oon's small improvisations at length.

The English edition runs to about 84,500 words, against the 393 pages of the Thai original, so the translation is a full-scale book with its own room for the long middle.

What to expect: melodrama played straight, and a long middle where the deception holds.

Read it if you watched the series and want the interior version of Ai-oon's decision. Watch first if you would rather have Tipnaree Weerawatnodom's dual performance carry the two sisters.

It suits readers who like emotional melodrama built on a single large decision, and who enjoy a romance where the central question is what honesty is owed.

One self-publishing author stands behind two adapted Thai Girls' Love novels.

Chao Planoy wrote and self-published this book, and also wrote GAP (Novel). Both reached English readers as e-books through MEB, this one on 6 September 2023.

The adaptation went to GMMTV, which released the series in 2024 as Pluto the Series, with the screenplay credited to Kusolin Mekviphat and Bangpahn Homjan.

The novel carries a single name where the series carries two writers. For a reader following this author, the continuity sits in the prose: the books are the through line, and each adaptation is its own answer to them.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Why is the novel called Pluto?

Pluto lost its status as a planet and kept orbiting anyway, which is the position the book puts its characters in.

What is Ai-oon asked to do?

Her twin Oaboom is left in a coma by a car accident on her wedding night, and the family asks Ai-oon to put on her sister's face for long enough to close a relationship Oaboom had kept hidden from them. The person on the other side of that secret is May, who is blind.

How long has the Thai edition been available?

Since 28 April 2018, at 393 pages and 369 baht, self-published by Chao Planoy rather than through a house imprint. The official English edition followed on 6 September 2023, running 607 pages.

When did the screen adaptation run?

Twelve episodes from 19 October 2024 to 4 January 2025 across GMM 25, the GMMTV YouTube channel and Viu. Kusolin Mekviphat and Bangpahn Homjan wrote the screenplay.

Where can both editions be bought?

MEB lists the Thai edition and the official English e-book. Because the book is self-published, MEB is the route to it rather than a publisher's own site or a bookshop.

Where a title can be read, and who is credited on it, may have changed since publication, as our disclaimer explains.

Themes

The Thai title puts three nouns side by side with nothing joining them: นิทาน ดวงดาว ความรัก, a tale, a star, a love. The phrase never says how the three relate. That refusal to connect them is the book's arrangement as much as its name. There is a story somebody is telling, there is an object in the sky that can be looked at and not reached, and there is a feeling, and the novel keeps all three in view without collapsing them into one.

That is a harder shape to hold than a single controlling image. Prose can leave three terms adjacent and unresolved for a long stretch, and this book does, letting the tale, the star and the feeling keep their own weight rather than folding two of them into the third.

The pressure the novel finally applies is on what a category is for. Its situation turns on a person being treated as an instance of a label, and on the label doing work the person underneath it never agreed to. The astronomical joke in the English title makes the same point in one word.

Interesting facts

  • An audiobook edition of the Thai text sits beside the e-book on MEB, so the novel exists in three forms on one platform before any screen version is counted.
  • The GMMTV adaptation ran twelve episodes from 19 October 2024 to 4 January 2025 across GMM 25, the GMMTV YouTube channel and Viu, with Snap25 credited alongside GMMTV on both production and direction.
  • Rachanun Mahawan, who plays May in that adaptation, also appears in the cast of the 2026 series drawn from the novel Moon Shadow.

How it was made

The Thai edition came first and by a wide margin. It was released on 28 April 2018 at 393 pages, published by Chao Planoy under her own name rather than through a house imprint and priced at 369 baht, with a print run offered separately through the author's own site. The English translation followed more than five years later, at roughly 84,500 words. Both are sold as PDF and EPUB downloads carrying a table of contents rather than as bookshop stock. Both are filed under Girl Love/Yuri, and the English edition carries a Top of the Year 2024 tag in that category.
