What happens

Pluto (Thai title: นิทาน ดวงดาว ความรัก, romanized as Nithan Duangdao Khwam Rak) is a 2024 Thai Girls' Love drama produced by GMMTV, released as the studio's second GL series after 23.5 and broadcast in twelve episodes on GMM25 and Viu between October 2024 and January 2025. Oaboom Ingsamug (Tipnaree Weerawatnodom) is the polished, capable twin, days away from a marriage her whole family approves of. Ai-oon (Tipnaree Weerawatnodom), her quieter sister in the same dual role, has spent a lifetime a step behind her. When a car accident on the night of the wedding leaves Oaboom in a coma, the family asks Ai-oon for something no one should have to give: wear her sister's face long enough to end a relationship Oaboom had kept hidden from everyone, her fiancé included.

The woman on the other side of that secret is May (Rachanun Mahawan), who is blind and has no way of seeing that the person at her door is not the one who left. What was meant to be a single clean goodbye keeps getting postponed. The longer Ai-oon stays, the more she sees of the life her sister never let the family witness, and the harder it becomes to tell where the performance ends and she begins. Pang (Rutricha Phapakithi) and Phim (Ploynira Hiruntaveesin) circle the deception from the edges of the friend group, while Duean (Duangdao Jarujinda) anchors a household that starts to sense something is off long before anyone says it aloud. Every day Ai-oon keeps the secret buys her time and costs her more.

Adapted from a novel by Chao Planoy, with a screenplay by Kusolin Mekviphat and Bangpahn Homjan and direction from the Snap25 team, Pluto builds its romance out of guilt, grief and the impossible position of being loved under someone else's name. The identity-swap premise gives the series a mystery-drama spine, and its real subject is what it costs to be seen as yourself. May's blindness drives the deception without ever being played for pity. The series brought NamtanFilm, the pairing of Tipnaree Weerawatnodom and Rachanun Mahawan, a Best Couple win at the Y Universe Awards 2025.

Pluto arrived as GMMTV's second Girls' Love series with a heavy premise: a coma, a forced impersonation, and a blind love interest who cannot see the switch coming. That mystery-drama backbone carries it across twelve episodes.

Story and Premise

The twin-swap setup could easily have collapsed into farce, but the writing keeps Ai-oon's guilt front and center. Every scene with May carries the tension of a lie that cannot hold, and the show is patient about letting real feelings surface instead of rushing the reveal for shock value.

The deception holds across most of the twelve episodes, including around people who have known Oaboom for years. Viewers willing to accept the premise's central contrivance are rewarded with a more emotionally layered story than the setup initially suggests.

Strengths

  • Tipnaree Weerawatnodom's dual performance differentiates Ai-oon from Oaboom through posture and tone rather than costume alone.
  • May's blindness is written as a character trait, not a plot gimmick, and Rachanun Mahawan plays her with quiet self-possession.
  • The supporting household, especially Duangdao Jarujinda's family matriarch, gives the drama stakes beyond the central romance.

Verdict

Pluto trades easy comedy for dramatic tension, anchored by a lead pairing that went on to regional award recognition.

Final Score: 8/10

Pluto went out on two clocks at once, two hours apart.

Pluto ran twelve episodes at 58 minutes, which is 11.6 hours, going out on GMM25 at 20:30 with a Viu slot at 22:30. A domestic broadcast hour and a streaming hour two hours apart put two audiences on the same weekly clock, one in front of a television and one on a phone.

GMMTV's other Girls' Love titles, 23.5 the Series and We Are, each have their own cast list, slot and episode length.

The novel underneath the series is Pluto (Novel). Chao Planoy wrote it, and Kusolin Mekviphat and Bangpahn Homjan adapted the book for the screen.

Set beside GMMTV's first Girls' Love series, 23.5 the Series, Pluto keeps the twelve-episode format but changes almost everything else. The earlier series is a school story told in 52-minute episodes on Fridays, 624 minutes in all. Pluto moves to Saturdays, lengthens each episode to 58 minutes for 696 minutes in total, and swaps the classroom for a family household.

The casting choice shapes the viewing too. One performer, Tipnaree Weerawatnodom, plays both twins, so the swap at the centre of the story has to be carried by posture, voice and habit rather than by two faces. The series suits viewers who like hidden-identity dramas with a mystery backbone and who enjoy a slow emotional reveal over twelve weekly episodes.

Themes

A twin swap is a visual trick. It rests on a face, and it fails the moment somebody looks closely. May cannot look at all, which turns the single advantage Ai-oon has into the one thing that is useless in the room she has to stand in. The resemblance is what made the plan thinkable, and it stops counting for anything at the point of contact.

Then there is the shape of the errand. Ai-oon was sent to end a relationship, which makes this the rare deception whose success condition is a loss. Every day she does not finish the job is a day she has failed at it, and every day she does it properly brings the thing she is beginning to want closer to being over. The task and the feeling are running in opposite directions from the first scene.

Around that, the series keeps its attention on who gets asked. The household's instinct is to hand the difficult thing to the sister it has always described in relation to the other one, and that habit is older than the crisis that exposes it.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What is the premise that drives the whole series?

A twin is forced to impersonate her comatose sister. Ai-oon steps into the life of Oaboom, the polished twin days away from a marriage the family approves of, and has to sustain the substitution rather than simply pull it off once.

Why does the swap not work the way a twin swap usually does?

Because a twin swap is a visual trick that rests on a face, and fails the moment someone looks closely. May cannot look at all, which turns the one advantage Ai-oon has into the thing that is useless in the room she has to stand in. The resemblance stops counting at the point of contact.

Who plays the twins and the woman at the centre?

Tipnaree Weerawatnodom plays both Ai-oon and Oaboom, and Rachanun Mahawan plays May. Rutricha Phapakithi appears as Pang, Preeyaphat Lawsuwansiri as Jan and Weerayut Chansook as Ton. The two leads are known as a pairing under the name NamtanFilm.

Did the cast prepare anything unusual for it?

Tipnaree Weerawatnodom learned to ride a motorbike for the role, and the series' own account posted photographs and video of it on 15 May 2024, roughly five months ahead of transmission.

How far ahead was it announced?

A full year. GMMTV unveiled the project at its GMMTV2024: UP and ABOVE Part 1 event on 17 October 2023, and the first episode did not reach air until 19 October 2024.

What has the cast won for it?

Rachanun Mahawan took Outstanding Asian Star (Thailand) at the Seoul International Drama Awards, with Tipnaree Weerawatnodom nominated in the same category. Thai recognition ran separately: Top-Tier GL Series of the Year at the FEED x Khaosod Awards 2025 and Most Popular Yuri Series of the Year at The Viral Hits Awards 2024.

When did the episodes go out?

Twelve episodes on Saturdays, from 19 October 2024 to 4 January 2025, weekly with no breaks. Thai broadcast was at 20:30 ICT on GMM25, with Viu carrying it two hours later at 22:30. Episodes run about 58 minutes.

Which book is behind it?

A novel by Chao Planoy. Kusolin Mekviphat and Bangpahn Homjan wrote the screen adaptation for GMMTV, keeping the central premise while expanding several supporting relationships to fill twelve episodes.
