Duangdao Jarujinda
BIOGRAPHY
Duangdao Jarujinda (Thai: ดวงดาว จารุจินดา, born 2 October 1951), known as Dao, is a Thai actor, voice actor and television presenter whose working life spans seven decades. Her birth name is Photchaman Jarujinda. The professional name she took, Duangdao, comes from an earlier Channel 4 leading lady, Duangdao Asakit.
She was born into the business. Her father, Sakka Jarujinda, was a well-known actor and film director at Thai TV Channel 4 Bang Khun Phrom, and she first stepped in front of a camera at five, as a child extra in the 1956 drama Achayakon Phu Borisut. Growing up around the station she worked as a programme announcer, a newsreader, a commercial announcer and a fashion model, while her acting moved from child parts to substantial supporting roles and then to leading ones. On screen she was paired at Channel 4 with the actor Sayan Chantharawiboon.
Her father then cast her as the female lead in his own directing debut, the 1971 film Mon Rak Chao Rai, opposite the star Sombat Metanee. The film was the first Thai production screened at Bangkok’s Scala cinema, which until then had shown only foreign films. A run of features followed through the 1970s and 1980s.
On the 1972 film Khet Jing Jing Hai Din Tai she was asked to dub another actor’s lines. She had never done voice work before and took up film dubbing seriously afterwards. Over the years she voiced many of the leading actors of Thai cinema, among them Aranya Namwong, Jarunee Suksawat, Naowarat Yuktanan, Jintara Sukapat, Mayura Sawetsila, Ampha Phusit and Yanee Jongwisut. When the Thai film industry slumped she moved to dubbing foreign films and series for Channel 7, and during the Korean drama boom she voiced female roles of every kind on that channel, from leading ladies to second leads to villains to grandmothers, shifting register to fit each one. She dubbed Agent Dana Scully, played by Gillian Anderson, in The X-Files.
From 1987 she returned to acting for Channel 7. She has presented for it as well, on Krob Khrueang Rueang Phuying, on Chiwit kap Phleng between 1993 and 1999, and on Fa Mi Ta since January 2013. Her recent screen work includes Talay Prae (Amarin TV, 2020), Songkhram Dokmai (GMM25, 2022), Tai La (Channel One 31, 2022), Laws of Attraction (Channel One 31, 2023), Sad Power (Workpoint, 2024), 9 Years of You (Channel One 31, 2025), Luang (Channel 7, 2025) and Chasing Love (Channel One 31, 2026), along with the 2026 film Death Whisperer 4.
She plays Yai Duean, the grandmother, in the Thai Girls’ Love drama Pluto (GMM25, 2024). Her two sons are both actors, known professionally by the nicknames Tum and Tle.
Duangdao Jarujinda’s screen credits run from 1956 to 2026 and cross Channel 4, Channel 7, GMM25, Channel One 31 and Workpoint.
She plays Yai Duean in Pluto (GMM25, 2024) and also appears in Laws of Attraction (Channel One 31, 2023).
