What happens

Laws of Attraction (กฎแห่งรักดึงดูด) is a Thai Boys' Love series that ran on Channel One 31 for eight weekly episodes, from 15 July to 2 September 2023. It is a legal thriller before it is anything else, and the romance is built inside the case rather than alongside it.

Charn Saengsathianphong (Film Thanapat Kawila) is a careful, effective lawyer whose reputation was made on a single high-profile win. When he is pulled off a major case without warning, he does not accept the explanation he is given. Convinced something is being hidden from him, he sets out to find out who wanted him gone and why.

The thread he pulls leads him to Tinn Jitsomboon (Jam Rachata Hampanont), whose niece Tonkhao was killed in a hit-and-run that was never properly resolved. Tinn wants the case reopened. Charn wants the truth about his own removal. Whether what drives him is justice or revenge is left genuinely open, and the series does not rush to answer it.

The two of them are badly matched on paper and the investigation is dangerous, but working the case pushes them closer than either expected. As the pressure builds and the threats become real, what began as a working arrangement turns into something neither is in a position to protect.

The series was directed by Worawit Khuttiyayothin from a screenplay credited to Chawanon Sarapat, Sorawich Pinyomit, Thananant Kamsri and Wantawil Suknoy, and produced by The One Enterprise for its own channel.

A crime file first, with the romance built inside the case.

Laws of Attraction sits closer to a crime procedural than to most Boys' Love series. Charn is taken off a high-profile case with no explanation offered and goes looking for the reason. Tinn wants his niece's unsolved hit-and-run reopened. The two searches turn out to be the same search, and the relationship develops inside the investigation rather than alongside it, which is a harder structure to write and a more interesting one to watch.

Eight episodes aired on Channel One 31 between 15 July and 2 September 2023. Four writers share the screenplay credit and no source novel is named, so the plot answers to no earlier book.

The case does the structural work across a tightly packed eight episodes. It suits viewers who like a crime plot with a clear spine and a romance that grows out of shared work.

Final Score: 6.5/10

Laws of Attraction filled eight consecutive Saturday evenings on Channel One 31 without a skipped week.

The slot was 20:15, and the episodes fell on 15, 22 and 29 July, 5, 12, 19 and 26 August, and 2 September 2023. Worawit Khuttiyayothin directed the full order and is credited in Thai listings under the professional nickname Wo.

The two leads recorded the theme song themselves. Jam Rachata Hampanont and Film Thanapat Kawila perform it, and it was released while the run was still on air, so the song arrived alongside the broadcast rather than after it.

This is the legal one. Eight episodes, a hit and run, a cover up sitting above it, and a lawyer who will not let the file go quietly. The pairing is built out of the investigation rather than dropped on top of it, so the two men are partners in a case before they are anything else.

Deception is the recurring move on both sides, and the series is honest that it has a limit. There comes a point where lying stops working and somebody has to step back. Four screenwriters are credited, which is a lot for a run this short, and it shows in how tightly the eight episodes are packed. If you want a BL where the crime plot is the spine and the romance runs along it, this is that.

Themes

The Thai title, กฎแห่งรักดึงดูด, is the law of attraction: the self-help proposition that wanting something intently enough will draw it towards you. Attaching that phrase to a lawyer is the series' sharpest move, because Charn works inside the other kind of law entirely, the kind with filings and procedure and a burden of proof. Which mechanism actually produces an outcome, the statute or the wanting, is the question the title poses before the first scene.

The plot is arranged around the same doubt. Most legal thrillers ask who committed an offence. This one is more interested in who holds the power to decide that an inquiry should stop, which moves the genre's usual object of suspicion sideways. The danger is not the person who did the thing. It is the person with authority over the paperwork.

Interesting facts

The series' theme song was recorded by its two leads. Jam Rachata Hampanont and Film Thanapat Kawila perform ไว้ใจฉันได้เสมอ, You Can Always Trust Me, which was released while the eight-episode run was still on air in 2023.
