Chao Planoy
BIOGRAPHY
Chao Planoy (Thai: เจ้าปลาน้อย) is the pen name of Phetphailin Rattananam (เพชรไพลิน รัตนนาม; born 21 August 1985), a Thai novelist. On the evidence of adaptation credits alone she is the single most consequential individual in Thai girls’ love: eight of her novels have been adapted for screen, including GAP (2022), the first Thai GL series ever made.
Her earliest screen credits are as creator on the lakorn Ruk Tong Aoom (2014) and on Ugly Duckling (2015), the GMMTV school series that ran across multiple parts and is remembered well outside this vertical.
The adaptations
Every title below carries the girls’ love classification on its own record, and each is credited to her as the source novel:
- GAP (2022, 12 episodes), an office romance and the first girls’ love series produced in Thailand
- Pluto (2024, 12 episodes)
- Affair (2024, 8 episodes)
- My Marvellous Dream Is You (2024, 12 episodes), a fantasy
- Apple My Love (2024, 6 episodes)
- Mate (2024, 12 episodes), made as a lakorn rather than a streaming series
- Us (2025, 12 episodes), adapted for GMMTV
- Crush, undated on the record
Five of those arrived in 2024 alone. On several she is credited both for the novel and as creator of the series built from it.
BLGLFlix editorial view. The story of how Thai GL came into being is usually told through companies and directors. Saratswadee Wongsomphet made Yes or No in 2010. Saint Suppapong founded Idol Factory and put out GAP in 2022. Natthaphong Wongkaweepairod directed it. Kanittha Kwunyoo and Naphat Chitveerapat made 23.5 for GMMTV in 2024. All of that is true, and all of it happens downstream of this page. GAP was somebody’s book first. So were Us, Pluto, Affair, Mate, Apple My Love and My Marvellous Dream Is You. When five separate productions adapt one author in a single year, what is being described is not a studio strategy at all. It is an existing readership that publishers and producers went looking for and found already assembled. Our own read is that Thai GL is best understood as a literary phenomenon that television caught up with, in exactly the way Japanese BL grew out of manga and Chinese danmei grew out of web novels, and that the reason it is not usually described that way is that novelists do not appear in trailers. She is the closest thing this category has to a founder.
