About this archive
Some writing work does not fit neatly into the screenwriter or novelist categories, and this credit holds it. It covers lyricists, essayists and columnists, people who write for variety and live formats, authors of short fiction and non fiction, and contributors whose script work was partial or shared. It is also used where a person’s writing is documented but the specific form is not.
The breadth is not an accident. Careers in this industry are rarely confined to a single output: a performer may publish a book, a director may write criticism, a novelist may supply lyrics for a soundtrack, and a script may be developed by a group in which individual contributions are not separately credited. A general writing credit records that a person works with words professionally without overstating what is known about any particular project.
For a reader, this credit is best treated as a prompt to look at the individual profile rather than as a precise job description. It usually appears alongside another credit, and the profile beneath it will set out what was actually written, for whom, and in what form.
