BIOGRAPHY
Ayaka Matsumoto (Japanese: 松本あやか) is a Japanese Boys’ Love manga artist. She is the creator, writer and illustrator of Unexpectedly Naughty Fukami (やたらやらしい深見くん, Yatara Yarashii Fukami-kun), serialised digitally on WWWave Corporation’s ComicFesta since 7 December 2022 and collected into four volumes by Suiseisha as of 16 January 2026.
Her other work includes the Boys’ Love manga Mitsuya-sensei no Keikakuteki na Ezuke, two volumes, which also received a live-action adaptation, and Gohan Biyori. Her work reaches English-language readers digitally through Coolmic and Renta!, and is licensed for print by Seven Seas Entertainment.
One manga, two screen adaptations, one year apart to the day
Unexpectedly Naughty Fukami was animated first. The eight episode anime miniseries premiered on 7 April 2025 on Tokyo MX and BS11, produced by WWWave with studio HōKIBOSHI and Suiseisha. Matsumoto is credited on it twice, as original story and as supervising music editor.
The live-action series followed on 7 April 2026, exactly one year later, ten episodes on Tokyo MX and DMM TV, produced by MINY MIX CREATIVE and directed by Emiko Shirai. There her credits are creator and original story, and the series is based on both the manga and the anime.
The story the screen versions adapt follows Akihiro Kaji, the popular ace of a company’s sales department, whom colleagues admire and who privately rates the people around him by how attractive he finds them. A business trip with a colleague he had written off changes his opinion of the man. The live-action episodes run about fifteen minutes each, so its ten episodes add up to roughly two and a half hours of screen time.
The author of the manga also holds a supervising music editor credit on its anime.
Fukami began on ComicFesta, a platform owned by WWWave, and WWWave then produced the anime, so the platform that carried the manga and the producer of its first screen adaptation are the same company.
Serialisation began on 7 December 2022 and the anime premiered on 7 April 2025, a little over two years later. The live-action series, Unexpectedly Naughty Fukami, arrived a year after that.
Counted from the first chapter, the whole route from page to live action took about three years and four months. Her two named BL manga each reached live action, yet the route differs: Mitsuya-sensei no Keikakuteki na Ezuke is a two-volume work, while Fukami had reached four volumes by January 2026, three months before its live-action premiere. The credit on each adaptation also changes with the format. She is credited as original story on both, adds supervising music editor on the anime, and is listed as creator on the live-action series, which draws on both earlier versions.
In my view, the most distinctive detail of her screen credits is the supervising music editor title on the anime, which puts her name on the sound of an adaptation as well as on its story. If I were choosing where to start, I would take the live-action series for its fifteen-minute episodes, since all ten can be seen in one sitting, and then go back to the manga to compare the two. Counting them, three screen adaptations stand behind two manga series, which is a notable run for a career that began in 2022.
