SYNOPSIS

Pluto (นิทาน ดวงดาว ความรัก, A Tale, a Star, a Love) is the Thai Girls' Love novel by Chao Planoy that GMMTV's 2024 series adapts. An official English edition runs to 607 pages.

Two sisters, twins, have spent their lives with one of them a step behind the other. Oaboom is the capable one, the one the family is proud of, days away from a marriage everybody approves of. Ai-oon is the quieter one. On the night of the wedding a car accident leaves Oaboom in a coma, and the family asks Ai-oon to do something no one should be asked: put on her sister's face for long enough to close a relationship Oaboom had kept hidden from all of them.

The person on the other side of that secret is May, who is blind, and who therefore has no way of knowing that the woman in front of her is not the woman she fell for. The novel is about how long a lie can be carried before the person carrying it starts wanting it to be true, and what is owed to someone who cannot see the deception being run on them.

The title is the argument: Pluto lost its status as a planet and kept orbiting anyway. Chao Planoy also wrote the novel behind GAP.

KEY TAKEAWAYS

  • What it is: the Thai GL novel by Chao Planoy that GMMTV’s 2024 series Pluto the Series adapts.
  • Thai title: นิทาน ดวงดาว ความรัก, roughly A Tale, a Star, a Love. The English title is just Pluto.
  • Official English edition: 607 pages, released as an e-book on 6 September 2023 through MEB. A Thai e-book edition is also available.
  • Same author as GAP. Chao Planoy wrote both, and both are self-published rather than issued through a house imprint.
  • The premise is a swap, not a romance trope. One twin takes the other’s place to end a relationship the family wants closed, and the woman on the other side is blind.
  • The title carries the theme: Pluto was reclassified out of planethood and kept its orbit regardless.
  • GMMTV’s second GL series adapted it, after 23.5, with Tipnaree Weerawatnodom playing both sisters.

EDITOR’S VERDICT

An orientation note rather than a scored review.

The setup is the kind of thing that collapses if the book is not honest about it, and the reason to read the novel is that it is. Ai-oon is not a victim of circumstance here; she agrees, and the book keeps the reader inside how quickly agreeing turns into wanting.

May is the harder character to write, and the novel gives her more agency than a summary suggests. She is not simply being deceived; she is reading a situation with the information she has, and the gap between what she senses and what she is told is where most of the tension lives.

What to expect: melodrama played straight, a long middle where the deception holds, and an ending the twelve-episode adaptation compresses.

Read it if you watched the series and want the interior version of Ai-oon's decision. Watch first if you would rather have Tipnaree Weerawatnodom's dual performance carry the two sisters for you.
