Mon Maew

BIOGRAPHY

Mon Maew (ม่อนแมว) is the pen name of a Thai novelist whose books have twice been adapted into girls’ love series by the Bangkok studio Idol Factory. The name also appears transliterated as Monmaw and Monmaew. The two adaptations came one year apart, and both carry a novel credit and a creator credit.

The first is The Loyal Pin (ปิ่นภักดิ์), sixteen weekly episodes from 4 August to 17 November 2024, a historical romance about Lady Pin and Princess Anilaphat, who are raised together and whose bond changes over the years. The story opens with two childhood friends, one a princess and one a noblewoman, and turns on a long separation when the princess is sent to England. Sarocha Chankimha and Becky Armstrong lead. Kittisak Cheewasatjasakun directed, Tinna Simapaisal wrote the screenplay from the novel, Ruengwit Ramasoota handled the cinematography, Teeraphong Prathumrat composed the score, and Suppapong Udomkaewkanjana is credited as executive producer. It went out on Workpoint TV and on YouTube, and is classed as girls’ love and historical romance.

The second is Somewhere Somehow (รัก ปาก แข็ง), thirteen episodes of about seventy minutes, shown on Fridays from 8 August to 26 October 2025. It is a contemporary workplace romantic comedy about Kee and Peem, two close friends who are each quietly in love with the other. Kanyaphat Na Nakhon, known as Fay, and Yada Watcharamusik, known as May, lead. Natthaphong Wongkaweepairod directed and Thepnirun Pintumnuck shot it, with Tinna Simapaisal again credited on the screenplay. It came from the same studio and reached viewers through the same two outlets. Orntara Poolsak, called Looknam, appears in both series, in different roles.

Counted from premiere to premiere, the two adaptations sit 369 days apart, and together they add up to 29 episodes of screen time drawn from the author’s books. Their directors have gone on to different projects: Natthaphong Wongkaweepairod, who directed Somewhere Somehow, also directed the 2026 boys’ love fantasy Flower Boy for ONE 31, while Kittisak Cheewasatjasakun went on to direct the 2026 girls’ love series The Earth, The Water and The Air for Channel 7.

Two novels became two series a year apart, and the author is the only creative name that appears on both.

In my view the contrast is the interesting part. The Loyal Pin trades on distance, duty and a palace setting, while Somewhere Somehow is a light office story about friends who have to say aloud what they already feel. A novelist whose pages can carry both registers has range, and I would start with whichever tone suits your evening.

Orntara Poolsak is the one performer who crosses over, playing different characters in each.
