Wen Huei-ming

BIOGRAPHY

Wen Huei-ming (溫慧明), also credited as Hui-Ming Wen and Huei-Ming Wen, is a Taiwanese screenwriter with four credits spanning ten years. Three of the four were written for Taiwanese public service television.

The first is the feature The M Riders Finding Pangu (萌學園:尋找磐古, 24 June 2016), a spin off of a long running Taiwanese children’s fantasy franchise.

The second is Daybreak (暗夜微光), ten episodes from 12 April 2023 on Hakka TV, co-written with Huang Yu-chia and directed by Chin Ting-chang. Hakka TV is operated by Taiwan Broadcasting System and is the only television station in the world that broadcasts chiefly in the Hakka language.

The third is The Fame (成名在望), which began on 25 July 2026 on PTS, Taiwan’s first independent public broadcasting institution. Episodes run forty five minutes. Wen Huei-ming is one of six credited writers, alongside Chiang Hsi-wen, Ting-Pi Hsiung, Cheng Hsin-mei, Joyce Liu and Shih Cheng-yu, with Andy Luo and Chen Kuan-chung directing. The story follows three childhood friends separated by a tragedy and pulled back together years later by a kidnapping.

The fourth is Connecting to You (整個世界,只有你連上了我), the boys’ love series that began on 14 August 2026 and runs twelve episodes plus a special. Wen Huei-ming shares the screenplay credit with the director, Yu Jhi-han. It is adapted from a novel by Beck, produced by GrX Studio and Force Films, and carried on Viki, GagaOOLala, MyVideo, friDay Video and iQIYI International.

Wen Huei-ming had a PTS drama and a boys’ love series premiere twenty days apart in the summer of 2026.

The Fame opened on 25 July, and Connecting to You followed on 14 August, with its special episode on 18 September. The first is a kidnapping drama for public television, the second a romance adapted from a novel by Beck.

The other three credits all came from public service channels or a children’s franchise film, so the BL screenplay is the single credit written for a streaming release.

Every television credit on the list is a shared one, though the size of the partnership changes each time. Daybreak was written with one co-writer, Huang Yu-chia. The Fame has six writers in all, which means five colleagues. Connecting to You splits the screenplay with its own director, Yu Jhi-han, so the writing sits in the same hands as the direction. Across ten years the credits run from a feature film to a ten-episode drama for Hakka TV, a forty-five-minute public television series and a twelve-episode novel adaptation.

What I notice most is how little the four credits resemble each other. A children’s fantasy film, a drama in the Hakka language, a kidnapping story for public television and a novel adaptation about coloured threads between people ask for different kinds of patience from a writer. In my view the shared screenplay credit on Connecting to You is the one to start with, because the premise gives the writing plenty to work with and the twelve episodes keep it moving.

FUN FACTS

  • The screenplay of Connecting to You adapts Beck’s 2021 web novel, published by Mirror Fiction. Its hero, Lin Jiakai, sees the bond between any two people as a coloured thread, and no thread has ever run to him.
  • That changes when a silver-grey thread forms between him and the police officer Wu Dawei. Jiakai takes a job at the police station to stay close to it, and his ability turns out to be useful in Dawei’s cases.
  • As the two work together the thread changes colour, yellow for friendship and then toward the colour of love.
  • Four episodes were released together on 14 August 2026, two more followed on each Friday, and the twelfth episode came out on 11 September. The special episode on 18 September follows the two leads as they move in together and runs about 29 minutes.
