Chen Pao-ying

Chen Pao-ying is a Taiwanese film and television producer. She is the producer of Connecting to You (整個世界，只有你連上了我, 2026), the thirteen episode GrX Studio Boys’ Love series, and before that produced Your Name Engraved Herein (刻在你心底的名字, 2020), the most widely seen Taiwanese gay feature of its generation.

Her producing credits run from 2019 onward and include the short film Gentleman Spa (癡情馬殺雞, 2019) as executive producer and producer, Leaving Virginia (2020), Waiting for My Cup of Tea (一杯熱奶茶的等待, 2021), S-Girl (2022) as line producer, Blind Love (失明, 2025), Hunter Brothers (2025) as co-producer and The Dating Menu (2026) as executive producer. She has also appeared briefly on screen, as a night market customer in Left-Handed Girl (2025) and an apartment neighbour in OK.FINE. (2026).

Three queer credits, three different formats

Three of her titles carry Boys’ Love classification, and no two of them are the same kind of object. Gentleman Spa is an eighteen minute short directed by Yu Jhi-han, released 24 March 2019. Your Name Engraved Herein is a 115 minute theatrical feature directed by Liu Kuang-Hui, released 30 September 2020, starring Edward Chen and Tseng Jing-hua opposite Leon Dai, and set in 1987 as martial law in Taiwan comes to an end. BLGLFlix editorial view. Taiwan is usually described in this genre as a country without a pipeline, and we have said so ourselves on other pages here. This record is what that actually looks like from the inside. There is no studio producing Boys’ Love on a schedule, so there is no rostered producer either. What there is instead is a small number of individuals who keep turning up, working at whatever scale the money allows in a given year, and carrying the form forward on their own continuity rather than an institution’s.

The dates are worth sitting with. Her first queer credit lands in 2019, the year Taiwan became the first place in Asia to legalise same sex marriage. The following year she produces a feature about two boys in 1987, the year martial law ended, and it becomes the reference point for Taiwanese queer cinema for everyone who came after. Six years later she is producing a thirteen episode Boys’ Love series for a streaming platform. Read as one career that is a straight line from short film to national landmark to genre television, and our view is that the line is not accidental. When an industry has no pipeline, the people who stay are the pipeline. Losing one of them costs more in Taiwan than losing five in Thailand would.
