Yu Jhi-han
BIOGRAPHY
Yu Jhi-han, who also works under the name Mu Xing (牧星), is a Taiwanese director, screenwriter and editor from Yilan City, Yilan County. The credit record begins in 2016 and runs to the present, and the two queer titles at either end of it are separated by seven years and by an enormous difference in scale.
The earliest credit on file is assistant director on the feature The Boss (老大, 2016). Three years later came Gentleman Spa (癡情馬殺雞, 24 March 2019), an eighteen minute short film that Yu directed, wrote and cut. It follows Hao, a heavyset gay man working as a janitor at a Taipei gay spa, who gets one chance to massage an attractive customer named Kai. Lai Hao-zhe and Chris Lung play the two. TMDB tags it boys’ love (bl), lgbt, gay theme and gay bathhouse. It was produced by Force Films.
Two features followed in 2024, both directed by Yu: The Young Hoodlum (壞男孩, January) and The Bite of the Dolphin (海豚之惡, December), the second of which Yu also edited.
The current work is Connecting to You (整個世界,只有你連上了我), a thirteen episode series that began airing on 14 August 2026. Yu directs and shares the screenplay credit with Wen Huei-ming. It is adapted from a web novel by Beck, and the premise gives its protagonist the ability to see emotional bonds as coloured threads, with the first thread of his own leading to a police officer. Bruce Chiu and Liu Yu-ren lead. Chen Pao-ying and Hou Shuai-an produce, the band 理想混蛋 performs the theme song, and the production companies are GrX Studio and Force Films, the same Force Films that made the 2019 short.
TMDB holds no birth date and no biography text for this person. The record does list an IMDb id and linked Facebook and Instagram handles; the IMDb link is published here, the social handles are not, for the reason given in the editor notes.
BLGLFlix editorial view
Put the two queer credits next to each other and the distance is the story. In 2019 this was an eighteen minute short about a janitor at a bathhouse who is not beautiful and does not expect to be loved. In 2026 it is thirteen episodes of fantasy procedural romance released simultaneously on Viki, GagaOOLala, MyVideo, friDay Video and iQIYI International. Same director, same production company, and a leap in ambition that most careers never make.
That production company is the part we want to flag, because it corrects something this site has said before. Writing about Derjk Wu, we described Taiwan’s queer output as a platform rather than a studio: GagaOOLala aggregating work that has no other route, with no equivalent of GMMTV holding a slate together. Force Films appearing on both ends of this filmography, in 2019 and again in 2026, is evidence against the strong version of that claim. Something did persist across seven years. It is not a studio in the Thai sense, with contracted actors and a production line, but it is not nothing either, and we would rather revise the reading than defend it.
The five platform release is the other thing worth naming. A Thai BL series goes out on its studio’s own channel and on Thai television, with international licensing arriving afterwards. Connecting to You was placed on five services at once, two of them international aggregators, and none of them a Taiwanese broadcast channel. For a Taiwanese production the overseas audience is not a bonus won after a domestic hit. It is the plan from the first day.
One more thread. The source is a web novel, the way Friendly Rivalry in Korea came from a manhwa and the way the danmei adaptations came from published fiction. Across the region, the queer titles that reach thirteen episodes and five platforms are increasingly the ones that arrived with a readership already attached. Gentleman Spa, written from nothing, ran eighteen minutes.
