West: The Sun From Another Star
SYNOPSIS
West: The Sun from Another Star is a completed Thai boys love web novel set in a world where the dead do not stay quiet. Its center is Daotok, a quiet, deadpan art student with an unusual sensitivity to spirits, a gift he has learned to carry alone. When he moves into a new dorm he discovers the room is anything but empty, because four resident ghosts share it with him, each with a distinct personality and an unfinished story. Into that carefully guarded world barges Arthit, a rich, strikingly handsome senior who is hot tempered and blunt to the point of rudeness. He decides almost on sight that he wants Daotok, and from there he simply refuses to give up.
What follows is a chaotic and very funny push and pull. Arthit confesses without hesitation, Daotok flatly turns him down, and Arthit only digs in harder, insisting he asks nothing more than the right to stay by Daotok's side. The haunting is never played as straight horror; the four ghosts bring color and warmth as often as dread, and their unfinished business gradually pulls Daotok into untangling a troubling case from the past. Arthit has a reason of his own to care, because reaching one lost spirit matters to him far more than his swagger lets on, and the favor he asks for turns their uneasy alliance into something neither man can keep at arm's length. As old secrets surface, the reserved falling star and the relentless sun find their orbits pulling together, and Arthit's hidden, stubborn tenderness wins Daotok over through a sincerity unlike anything he has known.
The title is a play on the two leads' names, the sun for Arthit and the falling star for Daotok, and the book belongs to the same connected campus world as the rest of the Fourever You novels by Howlsairy, who publishes on Dek-D under the handle Howlvy. First serialized free on Dek-D in 2019 and later cross posted to Tunwalai, it runs to fifty-nine chapters and was collected into a complete two volume print set by the publisher Lavender in 2020. Tonally it is the boldest and rowdiest of the set, mixing supernatural mystery, comedy and slow burn romance, and it carries an MA rating on its home platforms for its darker treatment of death and grief. It was later adapted as The Sun from Another Star, the second arc of Studio Wabi Sabi's Fourever You Part 2, with Ngern Anupart Luangsodsai and Oat Tharathon Phumphothingam bringing the pair to screen.
