Du Yiheng

BIOGRAPHY

Du Yiheng (Chinese: 杜奕衡, born 4 September 1978) is a Chinese actor and singer from Chengdu, Sichuan, with around seventy-five screen credits. His career began with a resemblance to another star.

In 1998 he went on Beijing Television’s variety show Huanle Zong Dongyuan as an impersonator of the Hong Kong star Andy Lau, and won the national impersonation contest. For years afterwards he worked as Andy Lau’s body double on film sets.

From 2010 he began acting under his own name. He appeared in Jiang Wen’s Let the Bullets Fly (2010) as one of the Four, in Tsui Hark’s Flying Swords of Dragon Gate (2011) as Ji Xueyong, in White Vengeance (2011) and in The Taking of Tiger Mountain (2014); Let the Bullets Fly and The Taking of Tiger Mountain are the titles cited as his breakthrough. His first screen credit is Three Kingdoms: Resurrection of the Dragon in 2008.

Both breakthrough films were large releases. Let the Bullets Fly opened in China on December 16, 2010, with Jiang Wen himself, Chow Yun-fat and Ge You in the leading roles. It is set in Sichuan in the 1920s, in the fictional Goose Town, where a bandit leader takes the place of a newly appointed county governor and ends up in a contest of wits with the local crime boss, Master Huang. The Taking of Tiger Mountain followed on December 23, 2014, directed by Tsui Hark and led by Zhang Hanyu, Tony Leung Ka-fai and Lin Gengxin. It is set just after the Second World War and draws on Qu Bo’s novel Tracks in the Snowy Forest, following an army scout who infiltrates a bandit stronghold.

Since then he has worked steadily in Chinese television and film, often in period and wuxia productions. He played Cao Shuang in The Advisors Alliance (2017), Yan Zhenku in Legend of the Naga Pearls (2017), Tang in Ever Night (2018), Jin Si in The Bodyguard (2016), Gu Mingjue in Thirteen Generals (2024), Zhang Sanfeng in Heroes (2024), Wang Ge in Blossom (2024), Ouyang Feitian in The Immortal Ascension (2025) and Huang Zhongsi in Blossoms of Power (2026).

He plays Su He in Journey With You (2026).

Du Yiheng brings a veteran period-drama résumé to the historical boys’ love drama Journey With You, where he plays Su He.

Journey With You is produced by The One Studio and released through GagaOOLala, the Taipei-based subscription service.

His earlier roles in wuxia and court dramas such as Heroes and The Immortal Ascension place him in the same historical setting.

His career has two beginnings. The first is 1998, when he won a national impersonation contest, and the years that followed were spent as a body double on film sets. The second is 2008, the year of his earliest screen credit, Three Kingdoms: Resurrection of the Dragon, with 2010 marking the start of acting under his own name in Let the Bullets Fly. Between 2016 and 2026 the list moves through The Bodyguard, The Advisors Alliance, Legend of the Naga Pearls, Ever Night, Thirteen Generals, Heroes, Blossom, The Immortal Ascension and Blossoms of Power, each a different figure, from Cao Shuang to Zhang Sanfeng. Su He in Journey With You arrives in the same year as Huang Zhongsi in Blossoms of Power.

In my view, the most striking thing about Du Yiheng is the slow, unhurried way his name came forward. An actor who once stood in for a famous face on film sets spent years learning how a set works from the inside, and then arrived in two of the biggest Chinese releases of the period. What stayed with me is the range of figures he has played since: a Three Kingdoms regent, a legendary Taoist master and a run of wuxia names. If you are coming to him for the first time through Journey With You, I would go back to Let the Bullets Fly next, simply to see how a small part sits inside a very loud ensemble.
