Kim Tae-hee (김태희) is a South Korean director and screenwriter, best known on this site as the director and co-writer of the sixteen episode girls’ love thriller Friendly Rivalry (선의의 경쟁, 2025). The name is shared with a very well known South Korean actor, which is why this profile is filed with a qualifier. Three of the four productions on this record were made for the web, and the odd one out is a 2008 independent feature. That is worth pausing on. Momo Salon went out on NAVER TV and YouTube in 2014, at a point when a six episode Korean web series was not yet an obvious thing to make. Friendly Rivalry went out on a telecom company’s mobile app in 2025. Between them sits a webtoon prequel. Whoever this director is, the whole career has been spent adjacent to broadcast rather than inside it.
That matters for how Korean GL actually reaches viewers. The Korean BL side of this catalogue tells the same story: Yoo Jung-hyeok created and directed three BL series in eighteen months, all short form, all web distributed, none of them on a television channel. Friendly Rivalry is the largest scale Korean queer drama on file here, at sixteen episodes with a name cast, and it still did not air on television. It aired on U+ Mobile TV.
