Leo Peng Ziye, the Hong Kong actor who plays Hui Leuk-to in the BL series Ash

Leo Peng Ziye

BIOGRAPHY

Peng Ziye (彭梓燁), credited internationally as Leo, is a Hong Kong actor. He has one credit, and it is one of the three lead roles in Ash (煙灰), the Cantonese-language Boys’ Love series that premiered on Youku on 14 August 2026.

He plays the character English-language coverage renders as Hui Leuk-to and TMDB indexes in Mandarin as Xu Lvetao: the head of a business group tied to Hong Kong’s criminal underworld, who does not know that the man getting close to him is an undercover police officer. He appears in all nine episodes, opposite Kingston Yi as Mok Fei-foon and alongside Sing Lee, and the three of them were promoted together as the series’ main cast at a Hong Kong screening event before launch.

Ash is adapted from a novel by the Chinese writer Feng Nong, was produced in Hong Kong with a predominantly local production team, and was filmed entirely in Cantonese. It ran nine episodes of about thirty minutes, two on the first day and then weekly on Fridays.

BLGLFlix editorial view

What is worth saying on this page is not about him, because there is almost nothing on the public record about him. It is about what he walked into.

Hong Kong has one of the longest and most serious queer film histories in Asia and, until now, essentially no Boys’ Love industry. Ash is a deliberate attempt to start one: a Hong Kong production, in Cantonese, with a local crew, adapted from an established Chinese novelist, pushed out internationally through Youku. That is different in kind from a mainland or Taiwanese BL that happens to have Hong Kong faces in it, and this is his first job.

The casting around him is the strongest evidence that somebody meant it. Vanora Hui, also in this cast, has nine credits, two ViuTV series and a role in In Broad Daylight, a film with sixteen Hong Kong Film Awards nominations. Angelina Chiu was in a Lunar New Year studio feature opposite Dayo Wong and Sammi Cheng. Pat Ha and Justin Cheung are established Hong Kong screen actors. BL almost everywhere is cast entirely with unknowns, because the format is a launch mechanism as much as a genre. Ash put three newcomers at the front and then paid for a supporting cast with real careers behind it.

Two cautions a reader should carry away. First, his character exists in most databases under two completely different-looking names. TMDB indexes the entire Ash cast in Mandarin pinyin, so he is Peng Ziye playing Xu Lvetao; English-language coverage uses the Cantonese forms, so he is Leo Peng playing Hui Leuk-to. Both are correct and neither is a different person. For a series whose whole identity is that it was made in Cantonese, being catalogued in Mandarin is a peculiar fate, and it is going to confuse people searching for it.

Second, the producer cannot be stated with confidence. English Wikipedia credits Tongmeng International. TMDB credits DreamReunion International. These may well be two renderings of one Chinese company name, but that cannot be demonstrated, so this page names neither as fact and records the disagreement instead of choosing.

On him personally: no date of birth in any source, no biography, no agency, no Wikidata item. TMDB holds two photographs, a place of birth and an IMDb identifier. He is a lead in a series that is trying to open a national genre, and the reference layer has almost nothing on him at all, which is the normal condition for a BL debut and is worth naming rather than papering over.

TRIVIA

His first professional credit is a lead in a series attempting to open a national genre. Ash is presented as a Hong Kong Boys’ Love production filmed entirely in Cantonese, and Hong Kong has had essentially no BL industry before it.

He is one of three actors promoted as the series’ main cast, alongside Kingston Yi and Sing Lee, at a Hong Kong screening event held before the premiere.

His character carries two entirely different names depending on the source: Xu Lvetao in Mandarin pinyin on TMDB, Hui Leuk-to in Cantonese in English-language coverage.

Ash is adapted from a novel by the Chinese writer Feng Nong.

The supporting cast around him includes actors with established Hong Kong screen careers, among them Pat Ha, Justin Cheung and Vanora Hui. That is unusual for BL, which is normally cast entirely with newcomers.

The series released two episodes on its first day, 14 August 2026, then one a week on Fridays, across nine episodes of roughly thirty minutes.

TMDB records his place of birth as Hong Kong and holds two photographs of him, but no date of birth, no biography and no Wikidata item.
