BIOGRAPHY
Lee Hye-ri (Korean: 이혜리; born June 9, 1994), known professionally as Hyeri, is a South Korean actor and singer signed to Sublime since June 2024. Born in Gwangju, Gyeonggi, she studied at the Seoul School of Performing Arts and later took a film major at Konkuk University.
Her public career began in September 2010, when she joined the girl group Girl’s Day under Dream T Entertainment as its youngest member, alongside Yura. Acting followed two years later with the SBS weekend drama Tasty Life in 2012, where she played the youngest of four sisters in one family. Her first lead came in 2014 with the JTBC series Schoolgirl Detectives, and the same year a short appearance on the MBC reality programme Real Men made her name at home and brought her Best Female Newcomer at the MBC Entertainment Awards. In January 2015 she appeared as Min Woo-jeong in the SBS drama Hyde, Jekyll, Me.
The role that changed the scale of her career came in November 2015. As the female lead of Reply 1988 on tvN, playing Sung Deok-sun, she starred in what was then the highest-rated drama in the history of Korean cable television. The New Star Award at the 2016 SBS Drama Awards, won for Entertainer in which she played Jung Geu-rin, and a place at number three on the Forbes Korea Power Celebrity list that same year followed.
She then built a run of leads and supporting parts. Two Cops followed on MBC in 2017, and in 2018 she made her film debut as Yoon Myung in the period creature feature Monstrum. In 2019 she played Lee Seon-shim in the office comedy Miss Lee on tvN, and from 2018 to 2020 she was a regular on the tvN variety programme Amazing Saturday before leaving to concentrate on acting. My Roommate Is a Gumiho and Moonshine arrived in 2021, and in 2022 she played Baek Dong-joo in May I Help You?, which brought her the Excellence Award for Miniseries at the MBC Drama Awards. On film she took the part of Choo Pil-seon in Victory (2024), and the same year she received the Screen International Rising Star Asia Award.
In 2025 she played Yoo Je-yi, the reigning top student at Chaehwa Girls’ High School, in Friendly Rivalry, opposite Chung Su-bin. The two shared Best Couple at both the APAN Star Awards and the Korea Drama Awards, and the role brought Hyeri a Best Actress nomination at the Blue Dragon Series Awards.
Hyeri took the lead in Friendly Rivalry in 2025, fifteen years after her debut with Girl’s Day.
What stayed with me about her career is the contrast between the famous role and the later ones. Deok-sun in Reply 1988 is warm and open, a girl at the centre of a close neighbourhood. Yoo Je-yi is the opposite, a reigning top student who keeps everything controlled, and the change of temperature is what makes the 2025 performance worth watching.
In my view the most telling stretch is 2021 and 2022, when she moved through fantasy romance, a period drama and a workplace miniseries back to back. If you only know her from Reply 1988, start with May I Help You? for the range and finish with Friendly Rivalry for the control.
