Li Yingyi

Director

BIOGRAPHY

Li Yingyi, also credited as Yi Bao Zi (怡宝子), is the director of Double Helix (双程, 2026). It is the only credit on the public record for this director, so most of what can honestly be written here is about the production rather than the person.

Double Helix ran twelve episodes of about sixty minutes from 8 May 2026 and has finished airing. It is credited to Here We Go Production Company and Mejoy Entertainment, its origin countries are recorded as China and Singapore, its language is Mandarin, and its distributing network is GagaOOLala. ANITA is credited as producer. TMDB classifies it as danmei, boys’ love (bl), gay romance and based on web novel, with a melodrama framing built on separation and reunion.

The novel credit belongs to 蓝淋 (Lan Lin), and this is where the title acquires a history. Lan Lin’s 双程系列 was already adapted once, in mainland China, as a web film called 《雙程》 (English title A Round Trip To Love). According to the Chinese Wikipedia article on that film, it was produced by 次元影业, written, directed and produced by 秦榛, and released online in two parts on 12 and 28 September 2016. Its lead characters, Lu Feng and Cheng Yichen, are the same two the 2026 series is built on. That article also records that the 2016 release was promoted with a set of posters paying tribute to earlier queer films, among them Farewell My Concubine, Happy Together, Brokeback Mountain, Lan Yu, The Wedding Banquet, The Love of Siam and Eternal Summer.

The 2026 cast is led by Ayden Sng as Lu Feng and Lü Sitong as Cheng Yichen, with He Jiashu playing the same character at a younger age, and Fa Xuange, Li Keyi and Yang Kexin in support.

Li Yingyi’s record contains work and nothing else. No birth details, no biography, no accounts, gender unset. None of the Wikipedia editions searched has an article on this director. The fields are left blank.

BLGLFlix editorial view

Two adaptations of the same novel, ten years apart, tell you almost everything about what happened to Chinese danmei in between. In 2016 雙程 was a mainland web film, made in China, released on the Chinese internet, and advertised with posters that openly placed it in a lineage running through Brokeback Mountain and Lan Yu. Nobody was pretending it was about friendship.

The 2026 version is bigger in every measurable way. Twelve episodes of an hour each rather than two web films. But its origin countries are recorded as China and Singapore, its lead is a Singaporean actor, and its distributor is GagaOOLala in Taiwan. The story did not change and the classification did not soften. What changed is the paperwork and the map.

This site reached the same conclusion on the Feng Nong page, tracing eight danmei adaptations from a de-queered mainland television epic in 2017 to openly classified BL made in Cantonese and in Thailand by 2026. Not one of the openly classified ones is a mainland Mandarin production. Double Helix is now a second, independent confirmation of that pattern, arriving from a completely different production company and a different novelist. When two unrelated filmographies produce the same shape, it stops being an anecdote.

The Singaporean element looked isolated when this page was first written. It is not. Working through the same batch of records we found Lost to You (沦陷), a twelve episode Mandarin BL series that premiered on 15 May 2026, exactly one week after this one, directed by Xue Lang, carrying the same two recorded origin countries and the same distributor, and sharing no cast, crew or production company with Double Helix. Two unconnected productions landing on the identical arrangement seven days apart is a route rather than a coincidence. Singapore offers a mainland producer of danmei the one combination nowhere else provides: a Mandarin speaking screen industry and a separate jurisdiction. Thailand has the capacity but not the language. Taiwan has the language and the platform but carries its own politics. Singapore has the language and a passport.

A word about what this page does not know. One credit is not a career, and Li Yingyi may well have a body of work that public databases have simply not indexed. We are not going to inflate the page by describing the director’s style from a single series or by borrowing the show’s reputation and attaching it to a person. The work is documented above. The person, so far, is a name and a credit.

Wikipedia search for the director personally, English and Chinese editions: no article exists for this person, so no biographical detail was taken from Wikipedia.

CORRECTION, 31 August 2026. An earlier version of this list stated that the English Wikipedia article on Double Helix did not exist, and the citation was removed on that basis. That was wrong. The article was re-checked directly through Wikipedia's own interface on 31 August 2026 and confirmed to exist. The citation has been restored above. The error was in our check, not in the source. Note that this correction applies only to the article about the series; the separate finding that no Wikipedia article exists for the director personally still stands and is unchanged.
