BIOGRAPHY

Saratswadee Wongsomphet (Thai: สรัสวดี วงศ์สมเพ็ชร), known by the nickname Nay (นาย) and sometimes romanised Saratsawadi, born 20 October 1971, is a Thai film and television director and screenwriter. She directed Yes or No in 2010 and is still directing GL in 2026, with five GL credits across sixteen years.

She came up through Thai action cinema. She was second assistant director on Ong-Bak (2003) and first assistant director on Born to Fight (2004), then on 4 Romance (2008) and The Melody (2012).

Her first credit as a director is Yes or No (อยากรัก ก็รักเลย, 2010), a university-set film about two roommates that deals with homophobia and first love between women. She returned to direct and write Yes or No 2 (2012), and directed Namaste Hello, Bye-Bye (2013), in which she also makes her only on-screen appearance, as Bung.

Yes or No opened in Thai cinemas on 16 December 2010. Sucharat Manaying, known as Aom, plays Pie, a young woman from a conservative family, and Suppanad Jittaleela, known as Tina, plays Kim, her confident roommate. Wattana Weerayawattana wrote the screenplay, Come On Sweet produced the film, and it runs 110 minutes. Yes or No 2 reached cinemas on 16 August 2012 and is set three years later, when the two women have graduated and are working far apart, Kim on a farm in the north and Pie at a fishery in the south. Sarunthorn Klaiudom joins the cast as Jam, a colleague of Kim. The sequel runs 108 minutes.

The sequel took more than 10.4 million baht in its first four days and reached second place at the box office. Both films arrived on Netflix in the United States and the United Kingdom in late 2018.

From 2014 she has worked almost continuously in Thai television drama, mostly on long runs: Full House (2014, 20 episodes), Pink Sin (2018, 24 episodes), Amazed by Love (2018), Secret Garden (2019, 20 episodes), Praomook (2021, 15 episodes), You Are My Heartbeat (2022, 20 episodes), You Are My Makeup Artist (2022, 16 episodes), Love Destiny 2 (2023, 26 episodes), My Love in the Countryside (2024, 24 episodes) and Money, My Love (2026, 20 episodes).

She returned to GL in 2024 with The Secret of Us (ใจซ่อนรัก, 8 episodes), adapted from a novel. She followed it with Only You (เพียงเธอ, 2025, 14 episodes), on which she is credited as both director and screenwriter, and Fulfill (รักเติมเต็ม, 2026, 8 episodes).

Saratswadee Wongsomphet directed Yes or No in 2010 and Fulfill in 2026, sixteen years apart.

The five GL titles are Yes or No (2010), Yes or No 2 (2012), The Secret of Us (2024), Only You (2025) and Fulfill (2026). Yes or No is a feature film, and the first Thai GL series, GAP, followed in 2022.

Between Yes or No 2 in 2012 and The Secret of Us in 2024 she directed no GL, and then made three GL series in three consecutive years.

In my view the two Yes or No films reward being watched together. The sequel takes the same two people out of university and into working life, which shows a director with room to grow a story instead of repeating it, and that patience is worth keeping in mind when her later series come up.
