Cherry Magic! Thirty Years of Virginity Can Make You a Wizard?! (Manga)

Kiyoshi Adachi is an unremarkable office worker who reaches his thirtieth birthday having never been in a relationship, and who, according to a piece of folklore the series never bothers to explain, wakes up a "wizard" able to hear the thoughts of anyone he touches. The power arrives as a burden rather than a gift: crowded trains turn unbearable, and the small unkindnesses people keep to themselves become suddenly audible. Then he brushes against Yuichi Kurosawa, the handsome, universally liked colleague at the next desk, and hears something he cannot file away, that Kurosawa has been earnestly, patiently in love with him for years, with no intention of ever saying so out loud.

What follows is a romance built almost entirely out of one man's disbelief. Adachi can hear exactly how he is loved and still cannot accept that he is worth wanting, so he deflects, retreats, and reads sincerity as pity, while Kurosawa keeps offering ordinary kindness without asking for anything back. The mind-reading complicates the situation instead of resolving it, because knowing a feeling is not the same as trusting it. Around the two of them the series widens into a full workplace ensemble, Masato Tsuge, the blunt and unexpectedly perceptive coworker who becomes Adachi's closest confidant, along with Minato Wataya, Yuta Rokkaku and Nozomi Fujisaki, each given arcs of their own about loneliness, timing and the difficulty of saying the obvious thing.

Written and illustrated by Yuu Toyota, the series travels because it refuses to manufacture conflict. Toyota uses the telepathy to remove misunderstanding rather than create it, leaving Adachi's sense of his own worth as the only real obstacle, and draws office life with enough texture, overtime, convenience-store dinners, awkward work trips, that the romance feels situated rather than staged. Serialized by Square Enix in the digital magazine Gangan pixiv, with its first collected volume released in September 2018, it has run to sixteen volumes and sixty-nine numbered chapters, with a seventeenth announced to close the story and total circulation past three million copies. Carrying the publisher's Mature rating in the official English edition from Square Enix Manga, it treats its central relationship as ordinary and worth taking seriously. It is the source for the 2020 Japanese drama, the 2022 live-action film, the 2023 Thai remake, the 2024 anime and its compilation film, and a 2025 stage musical, and can be read legally through Square Enix Manga and the Manga UP!
