Woo Hyo-won

BIOGRAPHY

Woo Hyo-won (Korean: 우효원; born May 3, 1994) is a South Korean actor who works across independent film, web drama, and the Seoul stage. Boys’ love audiences know him as Min-woo in Love Class 2 (2023), the second season of the KT Alpha web-drama franchise known in Korean as 수업중입니다.

Woo studied theatre at Kookmin University, graduating from the School of Performing Arts in the College of Arts, and entered the industry from a university stage background rather than an agency trainee track. His screen debut came in 2021 with the independent feature Mara (말아), released internationally as Rolling, in which he played the lead role of Lee Won. The same year he appeared in the Wavve web drama You Raise Me Up.

He followed with the KokTV web series Bad Girlfriend (2022) and two 2023 web dramas: Playlist’s He’s Definitely a Northerner (걔 역시 북방계), in which he played Park Jae-beom, and Love Class 2, in which he played Min-woo. In 2024 he returned to feature film in a supporting role as Jin-rae in Neulbom Garden (늘봄가든), which makes two feature films separated by three years. Alongside screen work he has continued in theatre, appearing as Farewell in the play The Joy of Breaking Up (헤어지는 기쁨) in repeat runs from 2024 onward. Korean sources also list Park Hyo-won (박효원) as an earlier professional name.

Commercial work runs beside the acting. He has fronted campaigns for Willa, the audiobook service, and for Tada, LG Z:IN, KakaoPay, Outback and Volkswagen, which gives his career a fourth field next to film, web drama and stage. The stage side goes back to Kookmin, where his theatre training began, and it is the part of his work that keeps returning whenever a play such as The Joy of Breaking Up is remounted.

Woo Hyo-won came to screen work from a university theatre programme and still returns to the stage.

His Kookmin University theatre degree came before a 2021 independent feature lead and a run of web dramas, including Min-woo in Love Class Season 2. Since 2024 he has performed in repeat runs of The Joy of Breaking Up alongside his screen roles.

His credits move through formats in a clear order. The 2021 independent feature Mara gave him the lead role of Lee Won, and the Wavve web drama You Raise Me Up came the same year. Each following year adds another platform: KokTV’s Bad Girlfriend in 2022, then Playlist’s He’s Definitely a Northerner and KT Alpha’s Love Class 2 in 2023, so four web platforms appear within three years. The supporting part of Jin-rae in Neulbom Garden in 2024 brings him back to feature film, and that is also the year the repeat runs of The Joy of Breaking Up begin, with him as Farewell. Min-woo is one of two web-drama roles he played in 2023.

In my view, the telling detail is how little he has relied on a single format. If I were choosing a first title, I would begin with Mara, because a lead role in a small independent film shows what he can carry alone, and then move to the Love Class sequel to see the same actor inside a lighter ensemble. What stayed with me is that a theatre-trained performer keeps a play on the calendar even while the web work grows.
