Sung Chin-hsuan (宋沁諠) is a Taiwanese producer. The credit record is small and entirely Taiwanese, and the piece of it that matters most to this site is Fragrance of the First Flower (第一次遇見花香的那刻), the girls’ love series that did more than any other single title to establish Taiwan as a producer of queer drama rather than only a distributor of it.
Sung is credited as producer on the first season, six episodes of about twenty minutes each, released on 12 November 2021. A second season of twelve episodes followed on 18 February 2025. The series is carried by GagaOOLala and by Netflix, and its production companies are Long Moment Films and GagaOOLala itself. TMDB classifies it as girls’ love (gl), lesbian relationship, coming of age and high school crush, with a time skip structure.
The crew list around Sung on that series is a map of the Taiwanese queer production scene. Wang Yi-ling and Teng I-han direct. Chung Ai shoots. Yang Pi-ying, Leong Siew-hong and Chen Ting-ning are credited as writers. Yu-Hao Su produces alongside Sung, Dale Wu supervises and Kyle Tso-Chih Yeh is associate producer. The executive producers are Derjk Wu and Jay Lin, the founder of GagaOOLala. Enno Cheng performs the theme song.
The other three producing credits are films rather than series. The Sunset is Beautiful, isn’t It (夕陽無限好，只是近黃昏。) is a twenty six minute film written, directed and edited by Hsieh Li-ling, with Liao Ching-sung as executive producer. A Silenced Lament (假人的嘆息, 11 October 2025) is written, directed and edited by Chen Pei-ying, and its premise concerns a restorer and a mannequin who depend on each other for survival. The single most useful line in this credit list is the production company field on Fragrance of the First Flower. It reads Long Moment Films and GagaOOLala. The platform is not just carrying the series. It made it, and its founder took an executive producer credit on it.
This site has circled the Taiwanese question three times now and this is the answer. Writing about Derjk Wu we called Taiwan a platform rather than a studio. Writing about Yu Jhi-han we found Force Films persisting across seven years and said the strong version of that claim was wrong. Here is the version that actually holds: in Taiwan the platform became the studio. Faced with no broadcaster willing to commission queer drama and no GMMTV equivalent to build one, GagaOOLala stopped waiting for things to distribute and started financing them. Everything else about the Taiwanese scene follows from that decision, including the fact that the same few names, Jay Lin and Derjk Wu among them, keep appearing on the credits of unrelated productions.
Then look at the second network on that line: Netflix. A series conceived by a niche regional queer platform ended up on the largest distributor in the world. That is not a thing a Thai studio needs, because Thai BL already has television and a YouTube channel with millions of subscribers. It is exactly what a Taiwanese production does need, and it explains why the ambition here runs outward from the start rather than domestically first.
One last pattern, and by now it is hard to call it a coincidence. Season one of Fragrance ran six episodes of twenty minutes in 2021. Season two ran twelve, in 2025. Korea’s Love Class went six, then ten, then sixteen. A Chinese director went from seventeen minute episodes to full length ones inside fifteen months. Across four countries with four completely different funding models, the queer series that survive their first season come back longer. The format is not being handed down from broadcasters. It is being grown from below, one renewal at a time.
