Liu Yu-ren, the Taiwanese actor who plays Wu Dawei in the BL series Connecting to You

Liu Yu-ren

BIOGRAPHY

Liu Yu-ren (劉育仁, born 19 April 1995) is a Taiwanese actor with nine credits, most of them in Taiwanese cinema. His most recent is one of the two leads in a Boys’ Love series.

He appears as Chang in Detention (返校), the 2019 Taiwanese film adapted from the video game. The same year he played Teng-Tzu in the basketball drama We Are Champions (下半場). He went on to Summer (野夏天) in 2022, the Malaysian and Taiwanese co-production See You at the Rally (我和我的賽車老爸) in 2023 as Ethan Su, and Marching Boys (進行曲) in 2025 as Liu Chih-chuan, a student who joins his school’s marching band against his family’s plans for him. On television he appeared in the four-episode MyVideo series Fly the Jumper (違反校規的跳投) in 2020.

Dates show how close together his early work sat. We Are Champions reached audiences on 23 August 2019, and Detention followed on 20 September 2019. Summer was released on 25 March 2022 as a Taiwanese and Chinese film. See You at the Rally opened on 8 September 2023, and Marching Boys came out on 29 August 2025. Across those films the settings range from a basketball team and a 1960s school under martial law to a school marching band.

In August 2026 he took one of the two leads in Connecting to You (整個世界,只有你連上了我), playing Wu Dawei, a police officer. The series is adapted from a web novel and built on a premise in which a man sees emotional bonds between people as coloured threads, and finds that the first thread he can see leading to himself belongs to a cop. It ran twelve episodes plus a special, made by GrX Studio with Force Films, and reached audiences through five services at once: Viki, GagaOOLala, MyVideo, friDay Video and iQIYI International.

Two of Liu Yu-ren’s films are set around Taiwan’s martial law period, before he took a lead in a Boys’ Love series.

Detention takes place in a 1960s high school under martial law, where a group of students and teachers have been running an illegal book club. Marching Boys is set in 1992, five years after martial law was lifted.

Connecting to You aired its twelve episode main run from 14 August to 11 September 2026, followed by a special episode on 18 September 2026. His first two credits came four weeks apart in 2019: We Are Champions on 23 August and Detention on 20 September.

What stays with me in this filmography is how often the setting does the work and the actor is asked to fit into it. A 1960s school, a 1992 band room and a basketball court each give him a clear place to stand, and I think that habit of reading a room is what a leading role in a police story needs from him. I would start with Marching Boys and then move to the series.
