Boys’ Lockdown
SYNOPSIS
Boys' Lockdown is a six-episode Philippine boys' love web series produced by the Ticket2Me Bit by Bit Company, directed by Jade Castro and written by Danice Mae P. Sison. It was released between 18 October and 29 November 2020, first through Ticket2Me and then on YouTube, with episodes running from twenty-one to thirty-four minutes; the official uploads split each episode into two parts. The Heart of Asia Channel later carried it on television.
Key and Chen meet in the middle of the enhanced community quarantine, at what both of them recognise as the worst available moment to start anything. Movement is restricted, plans are impossible, and neither has much to offer beyond time. They keep finding reasons to talk anyway. Libby Chavez, Key's friend, supplies the outside perspective and most of the scepticism. What the six episodes track is not a courtship with obstacles so much as the slow discovery that a connection formed out of boredom and proximity has turned into something neither of them is prepared to give up when the restrictions lift.
The series belongs to the first cluster of Filipino BL titles, all released within a few months of each other in 2020, and it is the one that names the circumstance outright. Where its contemporaries set romances inside a quarantine, this one put the quarantine in the title. A second season was announced, with a cast revealed on 28 May 2022, but no further confirmed information about it has been found; this record covers the completed first season only.
The release route was staggered rather than simultaneous. Episodes appeared first through Ticket2Me, which also gave the producing company its name, then on YouTube, where the run was cut into twelve uploads of ten to twenty minutes apiece, and finally on television through the Heart of Asia Channel. A viewer coming to it now will most likely meet it as a playlist of half-episodes, which is not the shape in which it was first released.
