BIOGRAPHY
Penpetch Benyakul (Thai: เพ็ญเพ็ชร เพ็ญกุล, born 31 March 1974), known as Jab, is a Thai actor and singer with around seventy-five screen credits going back to the early 1990s.
He finished secondary school at Bangkok Christian College and took a bachelor’s degree at Suan Dusit University, then Suan Dusit Rajabhat, in the Faculty of Management Science, studying communication arts with a specialism in radio and television.
His breakthrough came early. He won the Phra Surasawadee Award, one of Thailand’s royal film honours, as Best Male Newcomer for Reo Kwa Jai Klai Kern Fun. In 1997 he released an album, Ik Nueng Jab, and he has kept a second career in music alongside acting. His screen work through the 1990s and 2000s includes the Channel 3 series Mai On in 1996.
He has been a steady presence in Thai anthology and period drama since. His credits include Club Friday (2012), Direk in Mae Bia (2015), Prince Kaew-In in My Hero Series (2018), Trai in the sitcom Suek Rak Kham Rua (2018), and both a doctor and M.R. Puttipat Juthathep in Dhevaprom (2024). His recent credits include My Cherie Amour (2024), Fourever You (2024) as Direk, Memoir of Rati (2025) as Ram Wisut, Khemjira (2025), Class Crush Crisis (2026) and Pls Love (2026).
Memoir of Rati is a twelve-episode period romance that aired on GMM25 and Netflix from 20 June to 5 September 2025, directed by Natchanit Jirarungroj. Its story follows Rati, a translator who comes back to Siam after twenty years and meets Theerathon, a deputy minister of education. Penpetch appears as Prince Ram, Theerathon’s father. Khemjira, which aired on One 31 and iQIYI from 9 August to 25 October 2025, is a twelve-episode supernatural series about a young man cursed to face danger as his twenty-first birthday approaches, and there Penpetch appears as Phra Phinyo and as Pawin.
He plays Pruek in the Channel One 31 Boys’ Love series Flower Boy (2026). The romantic fantasy premiered on 25 April 2026 and runs ten episodes on Saturday evenings. Satjakorn Chalard plays Scent, the heir to a struggling perfume company, and Peemapol Panichtamrong plays Gaysorn, whose natural scent draws Scent north in search of a rare pheromone. Nuttapong Wongkaveepairoj directs, with Lakkhet Wasikachart and Santi Torwiwat as co-directors.
Penpetch Benyakul plays Pruek in Flower Boy, more than thirty years after his first screen credits.
His filmography begins in 1993, with lakorn, anthology and period drama making up most of what followed. In 2024 he played Direk in Fourever You, and in 2026 he plays Pruek in Flower Boy for One31.
Two patterns run through the recent credits. The first is the double role: two characters in Club Friday in 2012, Chatphol and Sira, a doctor and M.R. Puttipat Juthathep in Dhevaprom in 2024, and two parts in Khemjira in 2025. The second is a name that returns. Direk is the character in Mae Bia in 2015 and again in Fourever You in 2024, nine years apart. The output also thickens toward the present, with Dhevaprom, My Cherie Amour and Fourever You in 2024, Memoir of Rati and Khemjira in 2025, and Class Crush Crisis, Pls Love and Flower Boy in 2026.
What stayed with me is the range of ages he plays: a prince who is a father in Memoir of Rati, two separate parts in Khemjira, a doctor in Dhevaprom. That is a lot of variety to keep across thirty years. If you want a place to start, I would watch Memoir of Rati for the period setting and then Flower Boy to see the same actor in a lighter fantasy.
