Ryuji Yoshizaki
BIOGRAPHY
Ryuji Yoshizaki (Japanese: 吉﨑崇二, Yoshizaki Ryūji; born 1979 in Saitama Prefecture) is a Japanese screenwriter and a member of the writing group Queen-B. He works across anime, tokusatsu, live-action drama and film, and in 2026 he co-writes MBS’s boys’ love series Hold on, Harutora-kun.
His filmography opens in 2020 with two anime commissions in the same month. He wrote nine episodes of Tower of God (神之塔), the adaptation of the Korean webtoon produced by Telecom Animation Film with Naver Webtoon and Crunchyroll, and two episodes of The 8th Son? Are You Kidding Me?. In 2021 came Girl Gun Lady (ガールガンレディ) for MBS and TBS, a live-action series built around a high school student and a model gun. Two feature screenplays follow, Grand Guignol (2022) and The Quiet Don: Chapter 1 (2023). In 2024 he wrote five episodes of GARO: Heir To Steel Armor (牙狼<GARO> ハガネを継ぐ者), an entry in the long-running tokusatsu franchise, and in 2025 he took the screenplay on Love Me to Death (死ぬほど愛して), an eight episode ABEMA crime drama.
Hold on, Harutora-kun (ちょっと待とうよ、春虎くん) began on MBS on 13 August 2026 across eight episodes. It is adapted from a manga by あめきり, directed by Keisuke Shibata and Kishida Masayoshi, and written by Ryuji Yoshizaki with Mikiko Takahashi. The premise puts a guarded student called Sui into a boys’ dormitory, where he survives by staying indifferent until a warm and disarmingly honest new roommate starts pulling the walls down. Tsubasa Nakagawa plays Sui Kishida and Masaya Sakuragi plays Harutora Kurobe.
Beyond the credits, the public record is limited to what his own writing group and the databases carry: a birth year, a home prefecture and a group membership. There is no photograph on any source this site is licensed to use, so this page carries none.
BLGLFlix editorial view
This is a genre generalist, and that is the interesting thing about him. A Korean webtoon anime, a plastic-model tokusatsu-adjacent series, a GARO instalment, two features, an ABEMA crime drama, and now a BL. Japanese screenwriters at this level are frequently commissioned by format rather than by theme, and a writer who can turn in episodes for an action fantasy one year and a dormitory romance the next is a working professional rather than a genre specialist. Japanese BL is often discussed as though it were made by a separate, sealed-off part of the industry. This filmography says otherwise.
The MBS thread is worth pointing at. He wrote Girl Gun Lady for MBS in 2021 and returns to MBS in 2026 for Hold on, Harutora-kun. Japanese broadcasters run late-night drama slots that carry a great deal of BL, and a writer already inside that system being handed one is a much more ordinary path into the genre than the newcomer route common in Thailand or the Philippines.
A warning for anyone else researching this series. TMDB carries duplicate person records for both of its writers. Alongside “Riuji Yoshizaki” credited as Script, there is a separate “Takaji Yoshizaki” credited as Screenplay on the same show; alongside “Mikiko Takahashi” as Script there is a “Mikio Takahashi” as Screenplay. The official MBS staff listing names one 吉﨑崇二 and one writing partner. We treat the second entries as database duplicates and use the records that can be verified against a biography, a credit list and the broadcaster’s own page. Anyone counting writers off the database without checking will conclude this eight-episode series had four of them.
One more thing about the source material. Hold on, Harutora-kun is a manga adaptation, credited to あめきり, and the manga is covered separately on this site. That is a distinction worth keeping straight: the screenwriter’s job here is adaptation, and the shape of the story belongs to someone else.
