SYNOPSIS

Chotto Matou yo, Harutora-kun (ちょっと待とうよ、春虎くん) is the Japanese Boys' Love manga by Amekiri that the 2026 MBS drama adapts. It began as a one-shot in Shinshokan's Dear+ and was extended into a serial after readers responded to it, running from the November 2021 issue to the January 2025 issue and collected in two Dear+ Comics volumes.

Kishida Sui is a second-year at a boys' boarding school. Since the people around him found out he is gay, he has kept himself safe by playing the boy everyone teases: laughing along, letting things pass, keeping a face mask on. It works, in the sense that nothing worse happens.

Then the spring room reassignment puts a first-year named Kurobe Harutora in with him. Harutora is direct in a way Sui has no defence against, and he does not treat the joke as a joke. The manga is about what happens to a coping strategy when somebody refuses to play along with it, and the second volume follows the two of them after they are already together, through another round of room changes.

A drama CD was produced in 2023, with Kenji Kasai as Sui and Ryota Suzuki as Harutora, before the live-action series arrived in 2026.

An orientation note rather than a scored review.

The premise is more specific than the boarding-school setup suggests. Sui is not closeted, he is out and managing the aftermath, and the coping strategy the manga is interested in is the one where you get in front of the joke so nobody else gets to make it. That is a harder thing to draw than a secret, and it is what gives the first volume its shape.

Harutora works because he is written as literal rather than heroic. He does not rescue Sui from anything; he just does not accept the premise that the teasing is funny, and the story lets that be enough.

What to expect: a short read, two volumes, with the first structured like a self-contained story because it was one before it became a serial. Volume 2 is a continuation of a couple already together, which is less common in the genre than it should be.

Read it if you are watching the MBS drama and want the version with the interior monologue, or if you want a school BL that is about self-protection rather than secrecy. Note that there is no official English edition, so reading it legally means the Japanese volumes.
