Wu Bi-lian

BIOGRAPHY

Wu Bi-lian (吳碧蓮), also credited as Doris Wu and, in various romanisations, Pi-Lane Wu, Pi-Lien Wu and Bi-Lian Wu, is a Taiwanese character actor. Wu plays the maternal grandmother in Connecting to You (整個世界,只有你連上了我, 2026), across the twelve episode main run.

Wu’s screen work runs from 2011 to 2026, almost all of it in Taiwanese film and television. It opens with a role in the omnibus feature 10 Plus 10 (10+10, December 2011), in the segment titled “Key”. Then, in order: Rock Records in Love (滾石愛情故事, 2016) as Granny; Mon Mon Mon Monsters (報告老師!怪怪怪怪物!, 2017) as an elder; Peacock (孔雀, 2018) as a tea picking woman; 76 Horror Bookstore (76号恐怖書店之恐懼罐頭, 2020) as the landlord’s mother; Sister (姐妹, 2021) as a grandmother; On Marriage (你的婚姻不是你的婚姻, 2022) as Mary; The Cleaner (人生清理員, 2024) as An’s grandmother, with a separate voice credit on the same series; Crown Shyness (樹冠羞避, 2025) as Granny; and The Echoing Heart (回音, 2026).

Connecting to You is a Taiwanese series directed by Yu Jhi-han and produced by GrX Studio and Force Films.

Chinese titles are credited alongside the English ones for most of these works. Rock Records in Love is 滾石愛情故事, Peacock is 孔雀, Sister is 姐妹 and Crown Shyness is 樹冠羞避, which are the names they carry in Taiwan.

Wu Bi-lian plays the maternal grandmother in the 2026 series Connecting to You, after fifteen years of grandmothers, landlords’ mothers and elders on Taiwanese screens.

The series has twelve episodes plus a special, and the grandmother appears across the twelve episode main run.

Seven of the roles listed above are grandmothers, mothers or elders, from Granny in Rock Records in Love in 2016 to Granny in Crown Shyness in 2025. In The Cleaner (2024), Wu holds two credits on one series: An’s grandmother on screen and a separate voice credit.

The list also shows how varied the settings are. Two of the titles sit in horror, Mon Mon Mon Monsters in 2017 and 76 Horror Bookstore in 2020, while Rock Records in Love is a music story and Peacock places Wu among tea pickers. After the debut in 10 Plus 10 in December 2011, the list has a five year opening stretch and then a steady run, with a credit in 2016, 2017, 2018, 2020, 2021, 2022, 2024, 2025 and two in 2026, The Echoing Heart and Connecting to You. The name Mary in On Marriage is the one role in the list given as a personal name rather than a family relation or a trade.

What I take from this list is how much a small part can carry. A grandmother, an elder, a landlord’s mother and a tea picker each need a different kind of presence, and Wu has been asked to supply it across features, series and an omnibus project. If I were choosing a first title, I would go to Peacock or Sister, then come to Connecting to You with those parts in mind. The pleasure is in noticing how steady the work is, with no single role asked to define it.
