What happens

The book's epigraph holds its central image: the moon sets at the horizon but never leaves the sky, and neither does the person the narrator is carrying. เงาใต้พระจันทร์ is a Thai Girls' Love novel about a love that is not allowed to be visible and does not stop existing because of that.

The Thai title means the shadow beneath the moon. The English edition was announced as A Shadow Underneath The Moon, and the author renamed it Moon Shadow before release.

Flower of Memory (ดอกไม้แห่งความทรงจำ) wrote the novel and self-published it. The Thai e-book arrived on 8 January 2023 through MEB at 362 pages, with illustrations credited to OSCAR_KATZE. The official English edition followed on 21 February 2025, translated by the meb translation team, at 391 pages and roughly 53,600 words. The 2026 GMMTV series Moonshadow adapts the novel.

The 2026 adaptation was made by GMMTV with Nar-ra-tor and directed by Kanittha Kwunyoo. Both editions of the novel are sold as PDF and EPUB downloads with a table of contents rather than as printed books, and the English listing carried a 349 baht cover price. One illustrator covers both language editions, so the artwork is the one element that stayed the same when the title changed.

A short novel built on one image: a shadow that exists only because of the moon above it.

At about 53,600 words this is a compact book. A shadow beneath the moon only exists because of the light it is cast by, which is a precise way to describe a relationship that cannot be acknowledged out loud.

A series has to add material where a novel this length can simply leave space, so readers coming from the show will find the outline familiar and the interiority denser.

About 53,600 words take somewhere around three and a half hours at an ordinary reading pace, so the whole book fits into an evening. That length suits its single image: a story that circles one feeling and does not need a wide cast to do it. The narrator is at the centre throughout, and the epigraph about the moon that sets but never leaves the sky is the lens for what she notices.

The Thai e-book and the English edition are close in size, 362 pages against 391, so a reader moving between them meets the same proportions. The translation came from the meb translation team, and the English title was settled by the author before release.

Read it if you want the version where the restraint is on the page rather than in a performance. Watch first if you would rather meet the pair on screen.

It suits readers who like quiet, image-led romance, who enjoy a love story told from inside one person's restraint, and who would rather spend an evening than a week on a book.

The book and the series do not spell the title the same way.

The novel is Moon Shadow, two words. The 2026 Thai Girls' Love series is Moonshadow, one word, at Moonshadow. Searching one spelling will not reliably surface the other.

Flower of Memory wrote and self-published the novel, and the English e-book arrived on 21 February 2025 through MEB, translated by the meb translation team.

For searching, the Thai title is the steadiest handle. เงาใต้พระจันทร์ stays constant across the book, the e-book and the broadcast series, while the English spellings split into one word and two.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Was the English title changed before release?

Yes. The English edition was first announced as A Shadow Underneath The Moon and the author changed it to Moon Shadow before publication, so two English titles circulate for a single book.

What is the image the book builds on?

The moon sets at the horizon but never leaves the sky, and neither does the person the narrator is carrying.

What are the publication dates of the Thai and English files?

The Thai e-book came first, on 8 January 2023 through MEB at 362 pages. The official English edition followed on 21 February 2025, running 391 pages and roughly 53,600 words.

In what format is it sold?

Both editions are PDF and EPUB downloads with a table of contents, not printed books. MEB listed the English version at a 349 baht cover price.

Who made the 2026 adaptation?

GMMTV with Nar-ra-tor, directed by Kanittha Kwunyoo, under the title Moonshadow.

Themes

The two titles do different grammatical work, which is easy to miss once both are printed in Latin script. The Thai phrase has a position built into it: one thing is held in the lower place and defined by what stands above it. "Moon Shadow" compresses that into a single compound noun. The relation disappears and an object is left standing.

That distinction carries the book's subject. What the Thai phrase names is not a thing but a place in an arrangement, and the arrangement requires someone else to stand higher and be looked at. The narrator's situation is positional before it is emotional.

The epigraph sets the other half of the pattern, and its logic is cyclical rather than elegiac: what goes out of view does so on a schedule and comes back on the same schedule. Read that way the novel is less about concealment than about endurance under a rhythm nobody chose.

Interesting facts

  • MEB files the book under Girl Love/Yuri and tagged the Thai listing Top of the Year 2025 in that category.
  • The same illustrator, credited as OSCAR_KATZE, covers both language editions, so the artwork is the one element that did not change when the title did.

How it was made

The Thai e-book came first, on 8 January 2023 through MEB, published by the author under her own name as the imprint rather than through a house. Illustrations for it are credited to OSCAR_KATZE. GMMTV produced the 2026 adaptation together with Nar-ra-tor, and Kanittha Kwunyoo is its director.
