Kanittha Kwunyoo

Kanittha Kwunyoo (Thai: ขนิษฐา ขวัญอยู่), known by the nickname Fon (ฝน), is a Thai television and film director, writer and producer. She is one of the most consequential directors working in this vertical, because her credit list runs directly from the commercial peak of Thai BL into the studio programme that took Thai GL from a niche to a scheduled category.

She began behind the camera as an assistant director on the film Best of Times (2009), where she also appears briefly on screen. Her writing credits start in the mid-2010s with The Ugly Ghost (2014) and Love Beat (2016), and her first credit as director of her own material is Karma (2015), which she both wrote and directed. She produced 15+ Coming of Age (2017).

From 2018 she settled into long-form television, and almost all of it at GMMTV. She created and directed Mint To Be (2018), wrote and directed all thirteen episodes of Happy Birthday The Series (2018), wrote A Gift to the People You Hate (2019), and directed all eighteen episodes of Who Are You (2020). In 2021 she directed 2gether: The Movie, the feature continuation of the series that carried Thai BL to its widest international audience, and produced the twelve episodes of Baker Boys. She wrote and directed 10 Years Ticket (2022, 16 episodes) and directed The Comments (2021), My Precious (2023), Home School (2023, 18 episodes), My Precious The Series (2024) and High School Frenemy (2024, 16 episodes).

Her GL work begins in 2024 with 23.5, on which she is credited as both director and producer across twelve episodes. She followed it with Us (2025, 12 episodes), adapted from a novel, and Moonshadow (2026, 10 episodes). Two further series, Scarlet Heart Thailand and Heartbound, carry her name as director without a confirmed release date.

BLGLFlix editorial view. Her filmography is essential to understanding how Thai GL scaled, but it is the third chapter of that story rather than the first. Thai GL began in 2010, with Saratswadee Wongsomphet’s film Yes or No. Twelve years then passed with almost nothing, until Idol Factory, an independent company founded by the BL actor Saint Suppapong, put out GAP in late 2022, recorded as the first Thai GL series. Only after that did GMMTV enter, and it entered by handing GL to the director who had already delivered the theatrical instalment of Thailand’s biggest BL property. That sequence, film proves the audience, independent company proves the format, studio industrialises it, is what her credits document. It explains why 23.5 arrived with a scheduling discipline and production standard no genuinely new strand would have had. Our own read is that this third stage is the one that decides whether a category survives, and that it carries a specific cost worth watching for: a strand built by BL’s own directors inherits BL’s instincts about pacing, school settings and episode structure. The most interesting question about her recent work is how far Us and Moonshadow are pulling away from them.
