Kanittha Kwunyoo
BIOGRAPHY
Kanittha Kwunyoo (Thai: ขนิษฐา ขวัญอยู่) is a Thai television and film director who also writes and produces. She is known by the nickname Fon (ฝน). Her credit list runs from the Thai BL feature 2gether: The Movie (2021) to the GL series 23.5, Us and Moonshadow.
She studied Communication Arts at Bangkok University. Her programme was Radio, Television and Film. She later taught as a special lecturer in storytelling and a screenwriting workshop in the film department at Rangsit University. Her short film Time… Love reached the finals of the 12th Thai Film Foundation Short Film Festival and went on to inspire the GTH feature Short But Love Me Long.
She began behind the camera as an assistant director on the film Best of Times (2009), where she also appears briefly on screen. Her writing credits start in the mid-2010s with The Ugly Ghost (2014) and Love Beat (2016). Her first credit as director of her own material is Karma (2015). She both wrote and directed it. It was Thailand’s submission for the Best Foreign Language Film category at the 89th Academy Awards. She also directed episodes of the U-Prince series in 2016 and 2017. She wrote and directed U-Prince: Thesis. She produced 15+ Coming of Age (2017).
From 2018 she settled into long-form television, and almost all of it at GMMTV. She created and directed Mint To Be (2018) and wrote and directed all thirteen episodes of Happy Birthday The Series (2018). She wrote A Gift to the People You Hate (2019) and directed all eighteen episodes of Who Are You (2020). In 2021 she directed 2gether: The Movie, the feature continuation of the series 2gether. She also produced the twelve episodes of Baker Boys. She wrote and directed 10 Years Ticket (2022, 16 episodes). She also directed The Comments (2021). Her later directing includes My Precious (2023) and Home School (2023, 18 episodes). My Precious The Series (2024) and High School Frenemy (2024, 16 episodes) followed.
Her GL work begins in 2024 with 23.5, on which she is credited as both director and producer across twelve episodes. She followed it with Us (2025, 12 episodes). It is adapted from a novel and also released in an uncut version. Moonshadow (2026, 10 episodes) came next. Two further series list her as director: Scarlet Heart Thailand and Heartbound.
Kanittha Kwunyoo directed 2gether: The Movie in 2021 and her first GL series 23.5 three years later.
On 23.5 she holds two credits across all twelve episodes: director and producer. Us and Moonshadow followed in 2025 and 2026, the first adapted from a novel.
What I notice in her run of credits is how steady the craft is. She wrote her own films first and taught story structure. She then moved into ensemble television where a director has to keep sixteen and eighteen episode arcs coherent. That background in writing is why I would point a newcomer to Who Are You or Us first: both reward attention to how a scene is built as much as to who is in it.
