A title about the second attempt

The Japanese title, 恋をするなら二度目が上等, says that if one is going to fall in love, the second time is the better one. The drama builds on that line with a reunion: Miyata, who has sworn off falling in love, meets again the person he first loved. The title works as an argument that the story then has to test, and the six short episodes give it little room to avoid the question.

Work as the way back in

The reunion is not left to chance. Miyata is a business magazine editor and Iwanaga is a university associate professor, and the reason they meet is a column request on economics. A shared professional task keeps two people in the same room whether or not either wants to be there. The drama uses that structure to give each meeting a practical reason, which lets the feeling between them grow beside the work and not instead of it.

Two lead debuts on terrestrial television

Makoto Hasegawa and Robin Furuya were both taking their first lead roles in a terrestrial television drama. Hasegawa is a member of the music group THE RAMPAGE, so the casting paired a group performer with a fellow lead making the same step onto broadcast television. The ending theme, BANDAGE, was written for the drama by Ayumu Imazu.

A director who also writes

Yuka Yasukawa directs with Nao Nomura and shares the scripts with Aya Watatane, so the person shaping the images also shaped the words. Yasukawa returns as director for the second season. Each episode runs about twenty five minutes.

How it was released

The drama ran in the Dramaism slot, a late night block shared by MBS and TBS, and the first episode started at 24:59 on MBS and 25:28 on TBS on the night of 5 March 2024, which falls on 6 March after midnight. Weekly episodes followed until 10 April, and catch up was on TVer and MBS Douga Ism. A second season, set two years after the end of the first, began in the same slot on the night of 1 September 2026.

Themes

The central idea is a reunion between two adults who have changed since they last knew each other. Miyata has decided not to fall in love again, and Iwanaga, now an established associate professor, meets him in a professional setting that neither chose. The story gives them a practical reason to keep seeing each other and lets the older history surface through that routine.

The workplace frame matters as much as the romance. An editor commissioning a column from an academic is an ordinary meeting, so the feeling grows from small repeated contact. The short run of six episodes keeps the focus on that reunion rather than on a wider plot.

Interesting facts

  • The first season began on 6 March 2024 and the second on 2 September 2026, a gap of two and a half years.
