What happens

Love by Chance begins when Pete Pichaya, a wealthy and shy university student played by Suppapong Udomkaewkanjana, known as Saint, meets Ae Intouch, an engineering student played by Tanapon Sukumpantanasan, known as Perth. Ae becomes Pete’s protector and friend as Pete finds his way through campus life, and the friendship gradually turns into something more.

The series is built around that protection. Pete is new to the practical side of university, and Ae is the person who shows him around it, which gives the story a steady structure of small favours and growing closeness. The supporting cast around them includes Phiravich Attachitsataporn, known as Mean, as Tin Medthanan, Rathavit Kijworalak, known as Plan, as Can Kirakorn, Napat na Ranong as Techno and Siwat Jumlongkul as Kengkla.

Love by Chance was produced by Studio Wabi Sabi and directed by Siwaj Sawatmaneekul. It ran for fourteen episodes on GMM 25 and LINE TV, from 3 August 2018 to 9 November 2018, with each episode about fifty minutes. It is adapted from the novel My Accidental Love Is You by MAME12938, first published on Dek-D.com.

The ending of the first season did not close the story. A second season, A Chance to Love, premiered on 2 September 2020 on WeTV and ran for thirteen episodes, centred on Tin and Can.

The setting is a university where wealth and background matter less than who is willing to stand beside you, and that is the quiet idea running under the plot. Pete begins as someone who needs guiding and Ae begins as someone who guides, and the series spends its fourteen episodes letting that arrangement become a partnership between two equals.

What I noticed first about Love by Chance is that its central relationship is built from help. Ae protects Pete, Pete lets himself be looked after, and the story gets its warmth from a sequence of small, specific acts instead of a single dramatic confession. That makes it a gentle series, and a useful contrast to the harder-edged rivals to lovers titles in the same period.

The most interesting structural fact is what happened to the secondary pair. Tin and Can, played by Mean and Plan, are supporting characters in the first season and the leads of the second. So the series did not continue with Ae and Pete; it passed the story to the pair who had been at the edge of it, and A Chance to Love in 2020 on WeTV is a different series with a different centre. For a viewer who loved the first season, that means the story of Ae and Pete is complete in fourteen episodes.

The platform change is also worth knowing. The first season aired on GMM 25 and LINE TV in 2018, while the second moved to WeTV in 2020, so the two seasons span two different distribution routes within two years. Siwaj Sawatmaneekul, the director, has his own page, and Saint's page connects the first season to the rest of his work.

The source also gives the series its shape. The novel My Accidental Love Is You was published on Dek-D.com, and the adaptation keeps its central idea of a protector and the person being protected, then spreads the attention across a wider group of friends on campus. Techno and Kengkla sit in that group, which is why the first season feels like an ensemble even when the camera stays with Ae and Pete.

If you are new to it, start with Love by Chance and decide from the first episodes whether the protector and friend setup is for you. The pairing is the draw, and the second season is a separate story for a separate pair, so it is fine to watch only the first.
