Asai Sai
BIOGRAPHY
Asai Sai (浅井西, also romanised Sai Asai and Asai Nishi) is a Japanese mangaka. The public record holds twenty three works across fourteen years, from 2012 to a title still running in 2026, and all but a handful of them are boys’ love.
The career does not begin there. The first credit is Clover no Kuni no Alice: Kishi no Kokoroe (クローバーの国のアリス ~騎士の心得~), a twelve chapter fantasy romance serialised across 2012 and 2013 and collected in three volumes, followed by a contribution to a Shin Megami Tensei IV comic anthology in 2013 and a second Alice title in 2014. Those are adaptations of women’s romance game properties, not BL.
From late 2014 the record changes and does not change back. Nemureru Koi no (眠れる恋の, 2014 to 2015) is the first work carrying a boys’ love classification, and nearly everything after it does too.
Between February 2015 and October 2016 came a rapid run of six single volume books of nine to eleven chapters each, all with BL in the title, among them Kaihatsu BL (開発BL), Trauma BL (トラウマBL) and Gokuaku BL (極悪BL). Alongside them and after them came a long list of one volume works: Shousetsuka no Shitsukekata (小説家の躾け方, 2015 to 2016) and its 2017 companion Shousetsuka no Oborekata (小説家の溺れ方); Mabayui Koi no (まばゆい恋の, 2016); Neko no Kataomoi (猫の片想い, 2016 to 2017); Rakuen wa Te no Naka ni (楽園は手の中に, 2017); Boku no Sensei (ぼくの先生, 2019); the paired 8-nenburi ni Dakaremasu (2020) and 8-nenburi ni Koishimasu (2021); the science fiction tinged Wasureru Kimi to no 300-nichi (忘れる君との300日, 2021 to 2022); and Koi Nanka Suru Hazu mo Nai (恋なんかするはずもない, 2023). Several are written for an adult audience.
The work this site links to is Anata wo Korosu Tabi (あなたを殺す旅), thirteen chapters in two volumes, serialised from 6 April 2019 to August 2025. Two yakuza, Odajima and Kataoka, are sent away together on a trip after the younger man’s mistake, and the trip conceals its real purpose: Odajima has been ordered to kill him. A sequel, Anata wo Korosu Tabi SS (あなたを殺す旅SS), began on 22 April 2026 and is still running.
The AniList record lists two further pen names, アラビックヤマト (Arabic Yamato) and 櫻カヲリ (Sakura Kawori), and gives a birthday of 5 November with no year.
BLGLFlix editorial view
Twenty three works in fourteen years, and almost every one of them a single volume. That is the actual shape of a working BL mangaka’s output, and it is worth putting next to the screen adaptations this site spends most of its time on. A television series is an event. A one volume BL book is a job, finished and followed by the next one, six of them inside twenty months in 2015 and 2016.
Which makes Anata wo Korosu Tabi the interesting exception on its own author’s record. Thirteen chapters spread over six years and four months, from April 2019 to August 2025, while eight other books were started and finished around it. Everything else here moves fast. This one did not, and this one is the one that travelled far enough to end up in a database on the other side of the world with a page of its own. We are not going to claim the slowness caused that. But a two volume story that took six years to finish is not the product of the same working rhythm as the rest of the list, and the sequel starting eight months after it ended suggests the author knew it too.
The opening of the career is the other thing worth noticing. This record begins with Alice in the Country of Clover, a manga adaptation of an otome game, and a Shin Megami Tensei anthology piece. Licensed work for women’s romance game properties, then a turn into BL in 2014 that has lasted a decade. This site has now found the same generalist pattern on the production side in four countries: horror composers in Bangkok, lakorn writers on Channel 3, public television dramatists in Taipei, a director filling a quarterly slot in Tokyo. Here it is at the source, in the manga itself. Nobody in this industry starts out queer specialised. They arrive from licensed adaptations and stay because the work is there.
Three pen names is the last detail, and it is a quiet one. Japanese manga careers routinely run under separate names for separate kinds of work, which is a practical arrangement and also, historically, a protective one. It is a reminder that a bibliography is not the same thing as a biography, and that this page knows a great deal about what someone has published and essentially nothing about who they are.
