Bryant Mak Chi-lok
BIOGRAPHY
Bryant Mak Chi-lok (Chinese: 麥子樂, born 12 January 1980) is a Hong Kong actor. His career is a study in patience: he spent roughly a decade in walk-on parts before a single role changed how the industry saw him.
He entered the business at twenty-two and graduated from the eighteenth intake of the TVB Artiste Training Class in 2004, joining the station afterwards. His early credits are the kind that rarely get counted. Between 2002 and 2012 he turned up in the long-running sitcom Virtues of Harmony as a series of unrelated one-episode characters, and passed through dozens of TVB dramas as a reporter, a waiter, a constable, a student, a passer-by. Bit parts in Triumph in the Skies (2003), The Academy (2005), Forensic Heroes (2006), Rosy Business (2009) and When Heaven Burns (2011) sit in that stretch. Around this time the Hong Kong press took to calling him a lookalike for the actor Raymond Lam.
The turn came in 2012 with Highs and Lows, in which he played Chan Ka-chun, a character with an intellectual disability, and drew serious notice for the first time. He left TVB the same year for Hong Kong Television Network, where he appeared in The Election (2014), Doomsday Plus Five (2014), The Menu (2015), Blackish Sky (2015) and, most memorably, Night Shift (2015) as Chan Ho-yeung. When that contract ended in 2015 he signed with Emperor Motion Pictures. He is now managed by 天下一將士藝人有限公司, the artist arm of the One Cool group.
On film he has worked steadily in the middle of good Hong Kong casts: Pang Ho-cheung’s Love in a Puff (2010), She Remembers, He Forgets (2015), Wong Chun’s Mad World (2017) as Louis, Johnnie To’s Three (2017), Fagara (2019), My Prince Edward (2019) and Bursting Point (2023), where he played a former soldier. On ViuTV he appeared in Detective Tales: The Prequel (2019), the anthology Utopia (2019) and Law and Emotion (2023). In 2022 he took one of the male leads in the web drama Chasing the Tide, produced by Chik Kei-yi, and in 2026 he appears in the Youku and Media Asia series Major Crime Decoded as Ma Siu-tung. He has also fronted music videos for Charmaine Fong, AGA, Elanne Kwong and others, and recorded audio description narration for a documentary strand on Hong Kong Open TV.
In 2026 he appears in the Cantonese-language Boys’ Love series Ash (煙灰).
