BIOGRAPHY

Justin Cheung Kin-sing (Chinese: 張建聲; born 11 March 1983 in Hong Kong) is a Hong Kong actor with around sixty screen credits. He plays Liang Yi across the nine episodes of Ash (煙灰, 2026), the Cantonese Boys’ Love series produced by DreamReunion International for Youku International, directed by Brando and adapted from a novel by Feng Nong.

Scaffolder, hotel cleaner, model, actor

His route into the industry runs almost entirely outside acting.

He grew up in Mong Kok and moved to the Jordan Valley resettlement estate at the age of two after the family’s finances collapsed. He attended S.K.H. Leung Kwai Yee Secondary School, left at sixteen to work, and scored a single point in the 2000 Hong Kong Certificate of Education Examination. The jobs that followed were manual: driver, remover, decorating apprentice, cleaner at the Mandarin Oriental Hong Kong, and several months as a bamboo scaffolder in Wan Chai alongside a schoolfriend. He then spent a working holiday in Perth delivering food for a restaurant run by his girlfriend’s aunt.

By his own account he came back to Hong Kong, looked in the mirror, decided he was reasonably good-looking, and signed to a modelling agency as a freelance. A producer cast him in his first film, Girl$ (囡囡), in 2010. He signed to China 3D Digital Entertainment, saw out the contract, and has worked freelance through his own studio since.

Being cast in the Category III release 一路向西 typecast him, and by his own description it narrowed the parts he was offered. Around 2013 he started paying for drama classes in his spare time at the Ngau Chi Wan Civic Centre, on a course called 榕樹下 taught by Ho Wai-lung and Chan Suk-yi.

What followed was a decade of visible physical work. He put on fifty pounds to reach two hundred for Imprisoned (壹獄壹世界, 2015) and took it off in two months, then did the same again for One Second Champion (一秒拳王, 2020) and 大俠action, which earned him the nickname 影壇橡膠人, the film world’s rubber man. In 2017 he played 招積 in the web drama OCTB (反黑), a performance he has said he built with the Joker in mind and which won him a Yahoo! audience award. In 2022 he took Notable Male Actor (Film) at the AEG popularity awards for Breakout Brothers (逃獄兄弟). By 2024 he was also working as an executive producer, on Deliverance, in which he acts as well.

Justin Cheung is a Hong Kong film actor whose only Boys’ Love credit is Ash.

Ash began airing on 14 August 2026, with nine episodes in Cantonese.

He came to it after roughly fifteen years on screen, a career that began with Girl$ in 2010 and was built on film and web drama work.
