Masataka Hayashi (林雅貴) is a Japanese television director and one of the three directors of TV Tokyo’s Cherry Magic! Thirty Years of Virginity Can Make You a Wizard?! (2020), where he took the fifth and sixth episodes, the pair written by Satoko Okazaki rather than by lead writer Erika Yoshida.
He is the least publicly documented member of the Cherry Magic crew. No birth date, birthplace, education or agency has been published for him in any Japanese or English source consulted for this profile, and he has no Japanese Wikipedia article. What can be established is his credit list, which is substantial and has grown considerably since 2020.
Eiga.com records an early film directing credit, Custard Pudding (2010). His television work includes Octo: Mind Investigator Akari Shinno (2022), Ciguatera (2023), Kimi ga Shinu Made Ato 100 Nichi (2023) and Taigan no Kaji (2025), with further dramas listed for 2026.
For BL readers his most relevant credit after Cherry Magic is I Cannot Reach You (君には届かない。, 2023), the TBS adaptation of the boys’ love manga by Mika, on which he is credited as one of the directors alongside Masahide Izumi and Takayoshi Tanasawa. That makes him, like Hiroaki Yuasa, a director who returned to the genre after Cherry Magic.

Masataka Hayashi directed the fifth and sixth episodes of Cherry Magic! Thirty Years of Virginity Can Make You a Wizard?! in 2020, two of the twelve, and returned to the genre in 2023 on the TBS adaptation I Cannot Reach You.
No date of birth, no birthplace, no school, no agency and no encyclopedia entry exist for him in Japanese or in English. That is not unusual for a Japanese television director.
