Fu's campaign is conducted through pickup lines delivered with a straight face, teasing nicknames Moo never agreed to, and the enormous tactical advantage of being close enough to the family to turn up anywhere without needing an excuse. Moo's resistance is genuine rather than coy; he has stated a type, he has said no, and he would like the matter considered settled. But the longer Fu stays in the frame, the harder it becomes to keep those stated preferences and his actual reactions in the same room. The story moves between the family business, the bar, the university and an endless supply of relatives with opinions, letting the pursuit play out in public where everyone can watch Moo lose an argument he is technically winning. What keeps the premise from curdling is Fu's warmth: the persistence reads as affectionate rather than aggressive, and the book understands the difference between wearing someone down and waiting someone out.
