Ton Som Yu Ban Khao Tae Phon Som Lon Ma Ban Rao Talot Loei (Web Novel)
SYNOPSIS
Ton Som Yu Ban Khao Tae Phon Som Lon Ma Ban Rao Talot Loei (ต้นส้มอยู่บ้านเขา แต่ผลส้มหล่นมาบ้านเราตลอดเลย) takes its title from a small domestic grievance: the orange tree grows at his house, but its fruit keeps falling into ours. Ko Neung is the boy on the receiving end, restless and loud and single-mindedly devoted to the impossibly sweet oranges that land in his yard without permission. The tree belongs to the family of Ko Song, the quieter, sharper-tongued boy next door, who shares with him not only a fence line but very nearly the same given name, their Thai nicknames marking them simply as One and Two. They attend the same school, walk the same streets and cross paths far too often for any of it to be coincidence.
What follows is slice-of-life rather than melodrama. The novel hands its chapters over to snack runs, sibling-style bickering, homework, school routines and the accumulated small rituals of growing up two houses apart, then lets the romance assemble itself out of that material. Ko Neung's fixation on the oranges gradually becomes a fixation on the person who grows them, though he would be the last to notice it, while Ko Song's reserve keeps the story from tipping into sentiment. Their opposite temperaments, one brash and one composed, supply the comedy and the warmth in roughly equal measure, and because the narration stays close to Ko Neung's self-aware voice the coming-of-age material never turns saccharine. The pacing is deliberately unhurried and episodic, closer to a run of neighbourhood seasons than a plotted arc, so the question is never whether something dramatic will happen but how long these two can keep missing what is already obvious to everyone else.
Littleskyofme first sketched the premise as a short one-shot before expanding it into a serialized novel, posting it on Dek-D and ReadAWrite from July 2021; ReadAWrite lists the finished story as 41 instalments, a prologue plus forty chapters. everY, the boys' love imprint of the Thai publisher Jamsai, released the completed work as a two-volume paperback and ebook in October 2022, and an official English edition later appeared under the title When Oranges Fall through Hytexts. That English title also belongs to the 2026 GMMTV drama adaptation, which renames the leads Krittin and Khanin and casts Progress Passawish Thamasungkeeti and Almond Poomsuwan Suwansatit in the roles. The screen version necessarily compresses years the book is content to spend, so readers who want the story in its original, unhurried form will find Ko Neung and Ko Song exactly as Littleskyofme first wrote them.
