What happens

SOTUS: The Series is set inside an engineering faculty, where first-year students must go through the faculty’s SOTUS hazing system, run by a team of seniors. The senior at the head of that team is Arthit Rojnapat, played by Perawat Sangpotirat, known as Krist. The freshman who does not fall in line is Kongphop Suttilak, nicknamed Kong, played by Prachaya Ruangroj, known as Singto.

The story starts from that confrontation. Kongphop challenges Arthit in the early episodes, and the ongoing tension between a senior who enforces the system and a freshman who resists it is what the series builds on. Around them is a large faculty cast: Thitipoom Techaapaikhun plays a first-year student, Neen Suwanamas plays May, Chanagun Arpornsutinan plays Prem, a third-year, and Teerapat Lohanan plays Wad.

SOTUS: The Series was produced by GMMTV together with Felloww and was written and directed by Lit Samajarn, from the novel SOTUS by BitterSweet. It premiered on 20 August 2016 on One31 and LINE TV, with fifteen episodes in its main run, and it carries the subtitle The Evil Senior and Mr. Freshman in the original Thai title.

The series produced two later works. SOTUS S premiered on 9 December 2017 with both leads returning, and the spin-off Our Skyy came in 2018.

Because the story is adapted from a novel by BitterSweet, the structure of the faculty and its seniors comes from the page, and the series keeps the engineering faculty as its single setting. That focus is why the title is a good entry point for anyone who prefers a story with one clear location and one clear conflict over a story that moves between settings.

The first thing I notice about SOTUS: The Series is that its drama comes from a system rather than a feeling. The hazing structure gives the freshmen a set of rules to resist and the seniors a set of rules to enforce, so every scene has a rulebook sitting behind it. Most romance dramas rely on a love interest to create conflict. This one has an institution, and the pairing grows inside it.

That setup shapes how the two leads are written. Arthit is defined by his role at the head of the senior team, and Kongphop is defined by his refusal to accept it, so their first exchanges are about authority before they are about attraction. A viewer who likes the slow shift from opposition to closeness will find the whole arc laid out in the title itself: the evil senior and the freshman who does not bow.

The cast list is worth reading as a map. Thitipoom Techaapaikhun, known as New, is in the SOTUS cast as a first-year student, and he later leads Dark Blue Kiss in 2019. Neen Suwanamas plays May here and appears again in Theory of Love in 2019. Both of those series have their own pages, so SOTUS works as a starting point for following several careers forward.

The work also has a clear path after the first run. Krist and Singto both return in SOTUS S, which premiered on 9 December 2017, and the spin-off Our Skyy followed in 2018. That gives a viewer three connected stops, and the first one stands on its own as a complete fifteen episode story, so there is no need to commit to the rest before starting.

If you are new to it, start with SOTUS: The Series, watch SOTUS S straight after, and then follow New to Dark Blue Kiss.
