Cherry Magic! Thirty Years of Virginity Can Make You a Wizard?!

On the morning of his thirtieth birthday, Kiyoshi Adachi (Eiji Akaso) discovers that the old office joke about virgins turning into wizards is not a joke at all. He is an ordinary salaryman at a homeware trading company, has never been in a relationship, and has quietly stopped expecting one, so the sudden ability to hear the thoughts of anyone he touches arrives less as a gift than as an ordeal. The first mind he reads belongs to a stranger crushed against him on a packed commuter train, and it is pure contempt. Then his hand brushes Yuichi Kurosawa (Keita Machida), the handsome, effortlessly competent colleague the whole department admires, and what comes through is nothing like contempt: Kurosawa has been in love with him for years and has never once intended to say so.

That confession-without-a-confession removes the engine most romances run on. Adachi knows exactly how Kurosawa feels from the first episode, so the story cannot be powered by misunderstanding, and the obstacle left over is much harder to solve, because Adachi cannot believe he is a person worth wanting this much. The series treats that as a real problem rather than a stalling device, and Kurosawa, who could easily have been written as an intimidating ideal, never presses. Around them the workplace fills in: Yuta Rokkaku (Takuya Kusakawa), the earnest new graduate who looks up to Adachi; Nozomi Fujisaki (Ryo Sato), the level-headed colleague who quietly clears the way for the pair; and Kengo Urabe (Suzunosuke), who offloads his own workload onto Adachi and first repeats the wizard legend. A second thread follows Masato Tsuge (Kodai Asaka), a novelist living in Adachi's building who is even more withdrawn than he is, and Minato Wataya (Yutaro), the young delivery worker who keeps turning up at his door.

Directed by Hiroki Kazama with Hiroaki Yuasa and Masataka Hayashi, and written by Erika Yoshida and Satoko Okazaki, the drama adapts Yuu Toyota's manga, serialized by Square Enix in Gangan pixiv. It ran on TV Tokyo's late-night MokuDra 25 block from 9 October to 24 December 2020, twelve episodes of roughly 23 minutes each, plus two streaming-exclusive specials. The opening theme is "Ubugoe" by Omoinotake and the ending theme is "Good Love Your Love" by DEEP SQUAD. Known in Japan by the abbreviation CheriMaho, it became the breakout international boys' love hit of its year largely on its tone, playing a gay office romance as warm, low-stakes and completely unremarkable at a point when Japanese network television rarely did. A 2022 feature film, a 2023 Thai remake, a 2024 anime series and its compilation film, and a 2025 stage musical all grew out of it.
