Wishing Upon the Shooting Stars

Wishing Upon the Shooting Stars (向流星許願的我們, Xiàng Liú Xīng Xǔ Yuàn De Wǒ Men) is a 2026 Taiwanese BL fantasy romance adapted from Chung Min-jui's award-winning 2019 short story The Correct Way to Watch a Shooting Star. He Xiang-yong (Jed Chung) is a timid Taipei office worker who loses his job and retreats to his hometown on the fictional Xingpu Island with nothing to show for years of trying. Standing on the shore during a meteor shower, worn down by shame, he wishes only to disappear, and local legend holds that a stone thrown into the sea on such a night grants any wish for a price. He wakes the next morning wearing another man's face, known to everyone as Zhong Xiao-you (Jed Chung), a stranger his own father turns away at the door.

Only his oldest friend Li Wan-zhe (JN Yu) senses that something is badly wrong and stays close without understanding why. Working at a local bed and breakfast under his borrowed name, Xiao-you finds himself pulled toward a new arrival: Chen Hao-wei (Chu Meng-hsuan), the high-school crush he never confessed to, who has come back to the island and is inexplicably drawn to this stranger he has supposedly never met. Rounding out the group is Aomi Hamaguchi (Kota Kagami), a Japanese visitor the islanders know as Xiao Hai. As the summer builds toward the next meteor shower, the wish starts to collect its price: staying as Xiao-you means keeping a face that was never his and a love built on a lie, while reclaiming his own name means giving up the only version of himself anyone has managed to love.

Directed by Golden Bell winner Ray Jiang (Chiang Jui-chih), whose We Best Love remains a landmark of Taiwanese BL, and produced by The Idea Production with Calf Film, the series was filmed over roughly sixty days across Chiayi, Kaohsiung, Pingtung and Liuqiu Island. Jiang shoots in a loose travel-vlog register of sunlight, ferries and small-town shopfronts, so the coastline works as a place of recovery rather than a postcard, and the fantasy premise stays anchored in very ordinary grief about work, family and self-worth. The four leads were promoted together as the Meteor Four, and the show leans on their group chemistry as much as on the central romance. It premiered on 26 March 2026 after a Taipei launch event and streamed weekly on Thursdays, with GagaOOLala as the primary global platform alongside Rakuten Viki and iQIYI, closing its first season on 4 June 2026.
