SYNOPSIS

Achi Jittawisut (New Thitipoom Techaapaikhun) is a shy, self-effacing employee at a Bangkok company who reaches his thirtieth birthday having never been in a relationship, and wakes the next morning able to hear other people's thoughts whenever his skin touches theirs. The old joke promises magic to a man still a virgin at thirty; what it does not promise is that the magic will be comfortable. The first mind Achi reads belongs to Karan Wongkarun (Tay Tawan Vihokratana), the handsome, universally admired colleague sitting beside him, and what he hears is not the ordinary small talk coming out of Karan's mouth but the fact that Karan has been quietly, hopelessly in love with him for years and has never planned to say a word about it.

The power solves nothing. It simply takes away Achi's ability to pretend he has misread the situation, and leaves him alone with the conviction that there must have been some mistake, because nobody like Karan falls for somebody like him. Karan, who has no idea what Achi can hear, keeps being straightforwardly kind, and the series takes its full twelve episodes to let that kindness land. The longer Thai running time also gives the office around them real weight: Jinta (Junior Panachai Sriariyarungruang), Achi's blunt and loyal best friend, whose unguarded thoughts reach Achi whether he wants them to or not; Rock (Sing Harit Cheewagaroon) and Min (Mark Jiruntanin Trairattanayon), colleagues working through complications of their own; Pai (Jan Ployshompoo Supasap); and, further out in the company, Dujdao (Parn Thanaporn Wagprayoon) and Tanaka (Roj Sereeroj Jayaphorn).

Directed by Nuttapong Mongkolsawas for GMMTV, the series adapts Yuu Toyota's manga Cherry Magic! Thirty Years of Virginity Can Make You a Wizard?! directly rather than remaking the 2020 Japanese drama, moving a Tokyo office to Bangkok and roughly doubling the episode length in the process. It aired weekly on GMM25 from 9 December 2023 to 2 March 2024, twelve episodes averaging about 49 minutes with an extended 67-minute finale, and it reunited the TayNew pairing after several years of separate work. The tone is deliberately low-conflict. The mind-reading is never played for spectacle and never used to manufacture misunderstanding; it exists so that Achi can finally hear how differently he is seen from how he sees himself, and so that Karan's sincerity has nowhere to hide. Within Thailand the show was carried by GMM25, by Viu, and on GMMTV's official YouTube channel, while international streaming was suspended over a licensing issue, leaving no worldwide platform carrying it at present.

Adaptation
Thai remake of the Japanese manga Cherry Magic! Thirty Years of Virginity Can Make You a Wizard?! (30歳まで童貞だと魔法使いになれるらしい) by Yuu Toyota, serialized by Square Enix in Gangan pixiv since 2018. GMMTV adapted the manga directly rather than remaking the 2020 Japanese live-action drama, relocating the story to a Bangkok office and expanding each episode to roughly twice the Japanese running time. It was the first international adaptation of the property, and its 2023 broadcast overlapped with the franchise's Japanese anime and stage productions.

KEY TAKEAWAYS

  • What it is: the 2023 Thai remake of Yuu Toyota’s Japanese manga, produced by GMMTV and the first international adaptation of the Cherry Magic story.
  • The premise: a shy office worker turns thirty having never been in a relationship, and wakes able to hear anyone’s thoughts through touch.
  • The TayNew reunion: Achi Jittawisut (Thitipoom Techaapaikhun) and Karan Wongkarun (Tawan Vihokratana) reunite one of Thai BL’s most established pairings.
  • Run and format: twelve episodes on GMM25 from December 9, 2023 to March 2, 2024, averaging 49 minutes with a 67-minute finale.
  • Behind the camera: directed by Nuttapong Mongkolsawas for GMMTV, working from the manga’s structure rather than the 2020 Japanese drama’s script.
  • Supporting ensemble: Jinta (Panachai Sriariyarungruang), Rock (Harit Cheewagaroon), Min (Jiruntanin Trairattanayon), and Pai (Ployshompoo Supasap) fill out the office.
  • Tone: low-conflict, warm and comedic, using the mind-reading for reassurance rather than for plot twists or misunderstanding-driven drama.
  • What it changes: the setting moves to a Bangkok office and the episode length roughly doubles the Japanese version, giving the side characters far more room.
  • Availability caveat: carried in Thailand by GMM25, Viu, and GMMTV’s YouTube channel; international streaming was suspended over a licensing issue.
  • Where it sits: one of six Cherry Magic adaptations on this site, alongside the Japanese drama, film, anime, anime film, musical, and the original manga.

EDITOR’S VERDICT

7.5/10

I came to the Thai Cherry Magic braced for the usual remake problem, where a beloved script gets reshot with new faces and loses whatever made it work. That is not what GMMTV made here. This version goes back to Yuu Toyota’s manga rather than to the 2020 Japanese drama, doubles the episode length, and uses the extra room on the people around the couple.

The Pairing

Thitipoom Techaapaikhun plays Achi as genuinely small in his own life, and that choice is what makes the premise land. When he starts hearing what people actually think of him, his first reaction is not delight but suspicion, and the performance holds that note far longer than it comfortably could.

Tawan Vihokratana has the harder job. Karan has to be adored by an entire office and still read as sincere rather than smug, and the mind-reading device means we hear his private thoughts before Achi trusts them. Tay plays him with an unshowy steadiness that keeps the character from tipping into fantasy.

What to Expect

  • Feel-good office BL: low-conflict, warm, built on kindness rather than misunderstanding.
  • A fuller ensemble: 49-minute episodes give Jinta, Rock, Min, and Pai real arcs.
  • Manga-first adaptation: closer to the source than to the Japanese drama.

The Verdict

It is a touch slack in the middle stretch, and the finale's extra runtime is not entirely earned. But this is a warm, generous adaptation that justifies its own existence rather than trading on the original's reputation. The frustration is availability: with international streaming suspended, the audience most likely to love it largely cannot reach it legally.

Final Score: 7.5/10

Is the Thai Cherry Magic based on a manga?

Is the mind-reading power explained in the series?

Only lightly. The story treats it as an unexplained piece of folklore rather than a system with rules, and uses it as a device for showing Achi how others genuinely see him.
