What happens

Lin Jiakai (Bruce Chiu) can see the bond between any two people as a coloured thread. Born without connections of his own, he has watched other people be linked all his life while no thread has ever run to him. Then he meets Wu Dawei (Liu Yu-ren), a police officer, and a silver-grey thread forms between them. Jiakai takes a job at the police station to stay close to that thread, and his ability proves useful in Dawei's cases. As the two work together, the thread changes colour, yellow for friendship and then toward the colour of love, which neither man had planned for. Lin He-hsuan plays Chiang Chao Nan.

GrX Studio and Force Films produced the series from Beck's web novel, published in 2021 by Mirror Fiction. Yu Jhi-han directed and co-wrote the adaptation with Wen Huei-ming, and Chen Pao-ying and Hou Shuai-an are the producers. The first four episodes were released together on 14 August 2026, followed by two a week on Fridays through the twelfth episode on 11 September. A special episode followed on 18 September. Viki, GagaOOLala, iQIYI, friDay影音 and MyVideo carry the series. The production's tagline promises that there will always be someone in this world who will find you, understand you, and connect to you.

7/10

Jiakai is the person the title addresses, and yet the plot does not leave him waiting to be reached. He is the one who takes a job at the police station to keep the silver-grey thread within reach. The series is built on that gap between the receiving grammar of its title and the active choice at its centre: the man who has never been connected to anyone is the one who moves first.

Colour as the progress meter

A romance normally needs scenes to show two people growing closer. Here the premise carries part of that job. The thread between Jiakai and Dawei starts silver-grey, passes through yellow for friendship and moves toward the colour of love, so the state of the relationship can be read from the screen before either man says a word about it. That leaves the dialogue free for other work, and it makes their hesitation legible, because the viewer knows where things stand well before the characters do.

A case in the background, a relationship in front

The police setting gives the fantasy something practical to do. A person who can see who is bound to whom is useful when a case turns on relationships, and that gives Jiakai a working reason to be in Dawei's company every day instead of an excuse the writers must keep renewing. The romance does not have to carry every scene alone, since a case is usually being worked at the same time.

Release and ending

Four episodes arrived on the first night and pairs followed each Friday, which put the premise and its first turn in front of viewers at once. The twelfth episode on 11 September closed the main story. The special on 18 September turns to the practical business of moving in together, a change of scene from cases to a shared address.

Pace

The pace is even and unhurried, which suits viewers who want warmth over tension. Those who come for the mystery side will find the cases take second place to the relationship, and the score reflects a series that is gentle first.

Final Score: 7/10

What makes it work is how gentle both leads are. Neither one is playing a game. They are open and unguarded, and you spend the whole run wanting them to arrive, which is exactly the feeling this kind of story is built for. Twelve short episodes keeps it light on its feet.

Themes

The Chinese title is written in the grammar of network connectivity rather than the grammar of romance. 連上 is the verb for a device pairing, a line coming up, a login succeeding, and the novel's fuller title opens with the phrase for a wireless life. The red thread of fate is one of the oldest images in East Asian storytelling, and the series re-renders it as signal: coverage, range, whether anything is reaching you at all.

The direction of the sentence is the interesting part. It says only you connected to me, which reverses the usual order of I connected to you. Lin Jiakai is grammatically the receiver, a device that has spent a lifetime visible to the network and never picked up. What changes is not that he learns to reach out, but that he is finally addressed.

Wu Dawei's job runs on the same principle from the other side. Police work is the professional business of establishing who is connected to whom and then proving it, which is the thing Jiakai has always been able to see and has never been able to evidence.

How it was made

Chen Pao-ying and Hou Shuai-an produce under GrX Studio's Chinese name 瀚草文創, with Yu Jhi-han directing. Three performers lead the cast: Bruce Chiu, Liu Yu-ren and Lin He-hsuan.
